a Never Lookini Back The sun gleamed down on parched grass and parched bodies clad in T-shirts and shorts as they ran and stretched in training for the up- coming meet. Always busy, the coaches were timing sprinters and hurdlers. Track practice had become! All this tiresome and heated prac- tice really paid off for the girls track team. They finished with a record of five wins and two losses and were given the title of conference cham- pions at the upper AAA conference meet held at Francis Marion. Mrs. Franics McLaughlin, who coached the girls with Mrs. Betsy Reynolds, was named the conference Track coach of the year. As Susan James said, Mrs. Number one! The Lady Barons celebrate their precious Conference Championship. Susan Creech pours on the power for her last 50 yards of the 440 at Conference, McLaughlin has the ability to give one the courage to do anything with a simple word.N Since this talent is very rare, this award was much deserved. Though the boys worked equally as hard, their season was not as successful. Like many of the spring sports it was the first year for at least half of the team. But under the leader- ship of coach Wrightenberry, it was a year to learn and gain ex- perience in the highly com- petitive sport of track.
