Studying Awaking to an early morning Junior Beta Club membet Christy Bar- alarm to get in some last minute nhart prepares for Mrs. Billman's World studying time was not a new ex. Hismry Class' perience for most Beta Club members Looking we, his homewow, Wayne this year. It was dedication such as Elmore has a sly smile as Chris Gaddy this that helped them maintain the 90 prepa'eSforc'asst and above yearly average necessary to be in the club. The club started the year with a new advisor, Mrs. Emily Boykin. Faced with the responsibility of leading the entire Beta Club, Mrs. Boykin proved to be a hard working and well-liked advisor. The talents and abilities of those students in the Beta Club were not limited to academics. Some members were active in athletics while others took dance or piano, a few even found time for part-time jobs. Being in the Beta Club recognized some deserving students not honored during awards day. Each yeafs ceremony provided a chance to recognize current members and induct new ones. Students coming back for help is nothing new to Beta Club advisor Mrs. Em Boykin. 64 e Beta Club

Science and math; our teachers feel that they are more than just classes needed to graduate. When Mr. Hill, the Biology and anatomy teacher, was asked why he felt science was important he replied, ttWith an increasing em- phasis in todayts world on the science and math fields, it is necessary to have a general knowledge in those areas. Mr. Hill wanted his graduating students to leave this school with an apprecia- tion of our environment and how it affects us as individuals. The Junior Academy of Science fulfilled this wish in its purpose of promoting an 66 - Jr. Academy of Science appreciation and interest in the fields of science. Mrs. Boykin wanted her Algebra students to have a basic understan- ding and enjoyment of math, and she hoped most of her students would be able to think logically. She felt that regardless of what career field a student might choose, math in every respect of life was necessary in solving the numerous problems that arise. Science teachers, Coach McCord and Mrs. Reynolds, incorporated the ideas expressed by Mr. Hill and Mrs. Boykin in their classroom en- vironment; Mrs. Reynolds gained fame for her after-school help. how to use It.
