Being an Octagon member was a special opportunity to meet with girls of similar interests and to uphold the clubs purpose which was to provide service to the com- munity as well as to the school. Ad- vised by Mrs. Beverly Thomas, the club had plans to sponsor a Mr. Baron Contest, with the money earned going to a charitable cause. Asked why Louise Kay was in the Octagon Club, she replied, lil like helping my school as well as the com- munity. Like many of the Octagon members, Louise gains not only per- sonal pride but also community pride in being a part of this national organization. 58 e Octagon Club Octagon club officers Grace Bynum - Treasurer, Laura Perkins - Vice President, Jennifer Jackson - Secretary, Meg Price - ggttl! ,$$ Sophomore Octagon members Lisa McLeod, Laura Ducom, Gayle Herbert, Louise Kay, Lu Ann Pace, Elizabeth Shaw, Mary Francis Moses, Laura Ann Hursey, Ashley Alessandro. Is all this degradation 60 - Nike Club Laura Hendrick, Douglas Smith, and Courtney Singleton look like they are having fun during the Nike lnltlations. and inhuman treatment worth do- ing just for a club? Yes, at least the Nike members think so. Nike club activities included the traditional Powder Puff game be- tween the Juniors and Seniors, community service by collecting for the March of Dimes, the selling of carnations for Valentines Day, and the donation of gifts to the school.
