36 - Body Language Don't read my lips; read my body. The cliche Iiactions speak louder than words is true. I cross my arms, lean back in my chair then tell you I believe every word that comes out of your mouth. Do I? No. Body language e a language louder than words. Has anyone ever told you Itno while play- ing with their necklace and twirling the pendant back and forth? Then their body language is saying yes. Sur- prised? The body sends out all kinds of messages that for some reason you cannot say. You lean your head on your hand as you sit in your desk e youIre not paying attention to the teacher. You sit forward in your desk Hands often are used to explain confusing ideas or thoughts. Here Allyson LowderIS hands help her out. e your teacher has your undivided attention. You sit there tapping your foot and playing with your pen. Others can tell that you are nervous even if you deny it!! Other more physical actions say things too. A light tentative tap on the shoulder might be saying I want to talk to you, but Pm afraid of your reply. But then again, a big Iung-squeezing bear hug might be saying IIHey, I think you are nice! More is being said in a silent classroom full of students than anyone Iincluding the teacheri realizes. Clarice Spencer, hand raised, evidently knows the answer. Schoolwork can make a person's mind and body silently scream with frustration. Rob Heller seems to be trying to pop some answer into his head.
