With 21 seconds left and a tie score. Coach Seebeck gives the team last-second instructions. After leading the Varsity Cougars for most of the even- ing, the Lady Barons showed the courage and determination with which their team was made. When the pressure was on, Laura McEwen came through with the winning basket for the Lady Barons. This gamels ending became a typical Lady Baron feat as it showed evidence of their new motto: When the Going gets tough, the Tough get going. The Lady Barons really did get going and proved it by beating teams who had previously defeated them. After a few hard losses, the Lady Barons vowed to not be beaten twice by any team. The season lived up to the ex- pectations of the players and coaches, and no one who saw these young women play had any doubts that they were giving every game their best. Head coach Mr. Kim Seeback and assistant coach Mr. Jimmy Gee were pleased with the success their team experienced. The 1985-86 Lady Barons gave up hours of their time, and through their extreme dedica- tion to the game, they made it a victory season for the fans. The upcoming Lady Baronsi 0n the fast-break Iay-up, Catherine teaml 5 success is certain Williams makes two points. because of all the young talent The Lady Barons out rebounded almost on this yearls team. all of their opponents, and Laura McEwen finally puts this one back up to win the game against Coastal. Women in sports? Of course! The Varsity Girls Basketball team played just as aggressively as the boys team. When it came to winning, these girls had the determination to pull them through the toughest games. Their practices were just as long and just as tiring as the boys. It was this hard work that brought the Lady Barons to the State Finals in Beaufort. Reaching for the pass, Laura McEwen keeps the ball away from the Cougar Defenders, Free Throws make the difference and San- dy Strickland pumps in another one.
