CANDIDS The Class of 1988 chooses to dedicate their CREST to a man who has the special ability to encourage students to reach for the best in themselves. He began teaching at Wilson in 1969, an aficionado of world history, he completed a four-year college degree in three years. He has continued his studies through the years and is known to many as a perpetual student. The youngest in a large family, he was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He grew to be a philosophical person, who is a fine chef as a “health nut.’’ In addition, he is a connoisseur of fine wine, a lover of the arts and music, and a well-traveled man. At Wilson, he serves as the advisor to the Student Council. He and his wife Marie Therese live on East Lake Road in Wilson. Although there is a tendency to mistake his quiet manner and shyness for other traits, he is at heart a warm, kind, and giving person. The Class of 1988 dedicates their CREST to Mr. Anthony Frieri. DEDICATION Above: Hard at work as always. Right: Anthony of Arabia 10 DEDICATION Editors-in-Chief: Heather Stephenson Tricia .alino l-aculty Editor: Jennifer York Sports Editor: Karen llanna Copy Editor: Bridget Hogan Classes Editor: Dawn Wagner The CREST staffs of the past have always worked hard to bring together the best yearbooks for their classes. This year, as usual, there have been some slight changes made to improve the CREST. When several members of the student body were asked what changes they thought should be made, the two most popular suggestions were to have more color pictures” and to have more candid shots of crazy poses. The staff has agreed that they will try to honor these requests. When the editor of the book. Tricia Zahno. was asked what changes she thought the staff was going to produce, she simply answered that the format would become more journalistic, more like a magazine. For instance, she hopes to use more candids pictures and even a special showcase of Wilson students’ talents that would otherwise go unnoticed, to make the yearbook almost like a personal scrapbook full of memories for everyone. Tricia and the CREST staff have worked harder than ever to produce the class of 1988's yearbook and have hopefully achieved all of the goals they set out to accomplish. Good luck to all future yearbook staffs, and thanks to Mrs. Taylor, our advisor. There have been many improvements over the last couple of years. Even though the improvements aren’t drastic, the council is better able to serve the students and the faculty. The Student Council sponsors many events, including Homecoming and Moving Up Day. They also raise funds for other individuals and organizations. The Variety Show to benefit Muscular Dystrophy is held each year as is a Valentine’s Dance. The officers are as follows: President — Anne Giles; Vice-President — Ruthie Dy; Secretary — Bridget Hogan; and Treasurer — Shannon Grocki. Standing: B. Hogan, K. Mollosky, M. Lampman, A. Giles, M. The council sponsors many dances, runs the school store, and works very hard at its various fund raisers. This year the students sold jewelry to make some extra income for themselves and for others. This group of students is known for its ability to raise money and for the many times they have granted requests by others for loans or donations. They donate money raised from their sales and dances to various charities. Some of the charities that receive the money are UNICEF, Toys for Tots, Caring Christian Community Centers, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Locally, the Junior High Student Council has donated $1,000 to the Thomas Marks Playground Fund. The Latin Club was started with a loan of $300 given by the council. The students learn how to become better individuals as they help others. The Junior High Student Council has purchased 3 TV’s, 3 VCR’s, a bicycle rack, a message board, auditorium lights, and a sound lectern. The council runs the fairly new school store, which sells school supplies to students at low prices with the convenience of being right in school. Row 3: J. Coppings, P. Lainberger, I. Stimson, A. Make Up Club The make up club, which is advised by Mrs. Taylor, provides very valuable services for our school. The club is in charge of applying the make-up for Wilson’s school and the town plays. This year the make-up club did the make-up for the cast of the Late Great Me. our Jr. Sr. play. In addition the group does demonstrations at our schools annual Senior Citizens Breakfast. Many thanks go out to the makeup club for advancing the performing arts. 1 Said ... 1 said, “Smile,” and you did. 1 said, “Flave fun,” and you did. I said, “Be careful,” and you did. I said, “Don’t drink and drive.” but you did. I said, “Please don’t die,” but you did. I said, “Goodbye,” but you didn’t. By Tracey Gannon Langley, British Columbia S.A.D.D. (Students Against Driving Drunk) is an organization that has been angered by drunk drivers. There have been many accidents during the past year that have dealt with drunk driving. Some of these accidents have their friends. This has motivated the group to work even harder to stop drunk drivers. The group is advised by Mrs. Taylor and this years officers are; Pres. Ken Graham; V. Pres. Anita Pasquale; Sec. Jcrilyn Hillman; Treas. Shirlcen Simpson. One of the goals for this year’s S.A.D.D. members was to get more community involvement with the issue of drunk driving from the older generations as well as younger generations. They held demonstrations at the Senior Citizens Breakfast, an assembly this spring, and a spaghetti dinner for the community. They have had a very successful year and hope to continue reaching the people of our community. Why is S.A.D.D. here? “To stop the death and injury of innocent people.” — Ken Graham “Too many accidents have happened already!” — Deanna Demmin “To try to stop kids and adults from drinking and driving, and to prevent more accidents.” — Scott Benton M A K E U P C L U B S. Spring Written By Gennie Fenn 24 Art and Poetry MEMORY By Renee Neuman A memory is a part of me I can’t explain, it's something I feel I look back now on days gone by And think, is this for real? It seems like just a day ago That it all began. When as little children. We danced, and played, and ran. Moving up throughout the years Through the good times and the bad. To think it will all be ending soon Makes me rather sad. Moving on to new frontiers. Bright horizons lay ahead. And when at last, through all our trials We reach the rainbow's end. I think that all of this will be Just a memory of a memory ... Written By Gcnnie Fcnn NEVER FOREVER I won't leave this small place Without my relics from happy times past. Let me remember that smile on your face. Because the times we had all went so fast. They were never really bad. But all the times we laughed. We knew it wouldn't last. You have all helped me more than words can say. That is why I’d like to see you never go away. Don't cry. The tears you shed will soon be dry. All our jokes and laughter will disappear from view. Until a rainy day when you are lonesome too. Oh please remember, this can’t be forever. Because that awful word isn't ever said. Oh, we’re so clever! We’ll beat the test of time and you'll sec me again. I'm your long lost friend and you are mine. Just always remember. Jeff Frcatman When the world is on your shoulders, and life is passing you by There is one place you can turn, just look up in the sky. For above there’s a city of lights. They're shining down on you. Waiting to answer the always asked questions. Why, What, Where, When, and Who? ... Joel R. Narns It's never forever!! 25 By: Heather Stephenson LOVING HIM It always hurt when he was away But when he was near he wiped the tears away. I loved him so much that the time we spent together, were classified as loving memories, that will always be treasured. I loved him so much, that the time he was away I thought of him every minute of the day and when I wasn’t thinking of him, I was dreaming of the day that we join hands on that one special day. The tears and fears that we both shared will never be forgotten for many a year. We dreamed os sharing our lives together, But look what life did, we are no-longer together. Nature took its course. I guess it’s for the best. The time we shared I will never forget! By: Patricia Varney THE LIGHT When the Sun Sets across the field, And the moon shines above the trees, The light tends to fade away When the knife you use, has a very sharp blade. When you wake the light is bright. You close your eyes with all your might. But it is still there it will never fade just made! You and I We’ve been through much you and I. You’ve always been there when I’ve wanted to cry. I love you for that and I hope you know. That I’ll always be here to let it show. I hope we stay the best of friends, until forever comes to an end. You cheer me up when I want to cry, always you are there and I don’t know why. But I am so glad I have someone who lets me know I’m not the odd one. You make me feel so special and I thank-you for that. It’s you and I forever, and that is that! By: Kcrrie Lort 26 DO WISHES COME TRUE? By: Kristen Mollosky .. . And I Always Will I saw a falling star the other night. And 1 wished for you with all my might. Because time goes by 1 hear your still with the same girl as before. You never seem to give me a second look. So now its time to get to the point! Is this love that 1 have for you really worth waiting to give. Everyday when I see you in the halls at school it always puts me in a better mood. I just know that we were together it could really last. That falling star had a way to tell me to keep trying and believing in you! In which I really do! I want you! So answer my question in the best way and let me hear you say dreams and wishes do come true! By: Carol Tuttle Remember all of the times we’ve had, great, good, bad and sad. Try to visualize the special times we’ve shared together. Always hoping they’d last forever. But of course they never really have in a way, but the sweet memories will never fade away. Now, we will be torn apart, always knowing there will be a place for each other in our hearts. We will each go our own ways, always praying we’ll be together again on another day. Just remember one thing my friend. That the love we share the friendship we have and the talks we’ve had will never in a lifetime end. By: Sherry Holland You weren’t very important to me at the time, I may have said I loved you but my heart didn't feel it at all. Now, when I don’t have you anymore, I realize That you were the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you, I always have and I always will, Since you’re gone the realization dawns. I can’t keep my mind from dreaming of you, I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be with. You're beautiful, like a gentle stream rippling down a mountainside. I'm dependent, like a withering fern sitting placidly at your side, waiting for you to provide me with what I need. A look, a word, attention, acknowledgement, anything. I can live without you, but I don’t want to. And I don’t sec why I should have to. I only wish I had the nerve to tell you all of this. By: Michael Welch FRIENDS Friends on the other side of my life. Friends knowing what to do when the times right. Friends trying to calm me when I cry. Friends trying to understand why. They help us through hard times. Telling us love is not a crime. I’m telling you now, life would be a lonely place without friends. By: Terri Rowe 27 28 CLASSES 7 T H G R A D E Curtis Altizer B. J. Harrison Program There are three Wilson High School students participating in the Harrison Co-op program. Admittance to the program is very competitive. Each year Harrisons receives from 80 to 100 applications from area high school juniors and seniors. Only 30 selected and interviewed. From this, a mere 16 are chosen to aprticipate. Seniors include: A. Diachun and G. Kopeck. Rochelle Spanton is the only junior. Many students agree that it is hard leaving friends at wilson. But, the benefits gained from the Harrison Program are invaluable! 48 Asking thoughts on coming to America. “One purpose in coming to America was to help me make a career decision. I have learned many things during my slay here. Many students in Wilson have shown an interest in Japan. This gave me the idea of becoming a teacher of Japanese to foreign people. I wish not only to teach Japanese, but also to be a positive role model for the students who are interested in Japanese. Besides making a serious career decision, I have enjoyed my friends, going shopping, and going to the movies. Being a part of the tennis team is also a lot of fun. I have had a good time in Wilson and want to thank everyone for being so friendly and helpful. Adjusting to a new country is not easy. Wilson will be in my heart and mind forever. Maybe if I visit Wilson again, I will come as a teacher.” The Wilson Central Staff, Students, Class of 1988, and The Yearbook staff wish Harumi the best of luck and happiness in her future years. 49 1-Kojak; Christian Kid;... 3635 Harris Ave., Ransomville . .. We had a lot of fun as a team.” Both girls agreed that there was always someone there to congratulate them if they did well or to cheer them up if they didn’t. Heidi also stated that “the seniors were always there to give us encouragement.” The team lost only four seniors this year so there is hope and promise for a good year in 1988. 124 WIL89R Row 1: Coach Kuhn. Some joy, some saddness, and maybe tears — They’ll all come upon us through the years. You know you’re smart. And certainly not dumb. But still stop and think. And have smart-fun. Take care of yourself. Not just for you. There are others who care. Do it for them. too. Your parents, your friends — We love you so. Don’t make us watch And see you go. Just make today a happy one. For we never know what is yet to come. Give us many smiles and laughter Through the years. Because who knows? Tomorrow, — You may give us tears. Elyse Waple 140 When people think of Dan Burmaster they think of many things, for there is not just one thing anyone could think of that would remind him of Dan’s kindness and the warmth that people felt when they were near him. He was always ready to lend a hand, give someone advice or just listen to a friend talk. I can’t remember even one time when Dan was in a bad mood or mad at someone. He was always so happy. So cheerful. Everytime I saw him and I was down, he knew just what to say or just what to do to bring me up. That smile he had — that smile. It was so special and unique. People couldn’t help smiling and be happy when he looked at them. The smile is gone now, but the memory of Dan will live on in our hearts forever. Dan will be remembered by all who knew him — remembered for the joy he brought to us all. We must remember Dan for how he lived and not how he died. Dan is in a belter place. I feel that in my heart; Dan is with God. a place far better than any place on Earth. No one will forget that warm hearted smile of Daniel Burmaster. DANNY BOY The loss was great. He was a friend. Too soon he met The bitter end. He had lots of friends Who loved him so. All of whom Hate to see him go. He was young. Too young to die. For years to come. His friends will cry. The green, green grass is wet from the dew Of an Autumn morning but soon the brightness — the colors arc shattered The colors of the tree now have no color at all. The sky is not blue, but hazy. The green grass is dull. The world is so quiet, has no feeling at all. The pain hurts so much, digging deeper in my heart. A tear slowly falls. Your memory is showing. Such saddness was brought when you were taken away. We'll remember you with smiles, not tears. The trees will have color again. The sky will be bluer than ever. The grass will be wet with the dew of an atuumn morning .. . and your memory will live on forever in our hearts. 141 As we remember Our beloved Danny Boy. NEW YORK 14131 144 REMEMBER WHEN......................................................................................................................... When we began our school careers, most of us did not realize how much fun we would have and just how many friends we would make. We started kindergarten unaware that the very people we were afraid of would soon become our close friends. We spent the next few years learning how to read, write, and count our own lunch money! In sixth grade, we toured the high school and realized that the next year we would meet a whole new group of people and teachers. When we advanced to seventh grade, we met up with our classmates from the other half of the school district as we became the class of 1988. Finding all of our clases was a lot easier than we had thought, and our new lockers were mastered in no time! In eighth grade, we all competed in the annual science fair and a few students formed groups that competed in Olympics of the Mind. In ninth grade we were finally able to give ourselves a name. As freshmen, we attended several ceremonies. A junior high awards assembly was held and many of us received awards for our outstanding talents. We also attended the Homecoming assembly and Moving-Up Day assembly where we ripped down a sign that let us into the senior high — we were now sophomores. In our sophomore year, a battle of the classes was held in the senior high gym. Two representatives from each homeroom were chosen to compete, and our homecoming float, which was put together at Dawn Thrush's house, won first prize. With Mrs. Hoplight as our class advisor, we held a dance that didn't make much money but everyone seemed to have had a good time! At the end of our sophomore year, many of us were ready for the road. There were a few of us who even got to drive to school! As we entered our junior year, we became closer to the class ahead of us and were sorry to sec them go especially when we realized that we were next! We sold magazines to help build our treasury, we held another dance, and many of the girls joined the powderpuff team against the seniors. It was a good game and, even though we lost, it made us feel good because our guys had come out to cheer for us! We attended meetings for various clubs and activities and helped out with all of the senior functions. Our junior year was a time for work and a time for achievement. We ordered our class rings and attended a ring-turning ceremony. When we again attended the Moving-Up Day assembly, we watched the seniors walk through the arches, and we ripped down the sign that read JUNIORS to sec our new title — SENIORS. We could hardly believe our eyes. Summer went by quickly and school began again but this time, there was no one to look up to. We were almost stunned to realize that WE were now the objects of admiration. The powderpuff team this year, coached by Mr. Schessl, defeated the juniors in a 7-0 game. Some of our class attended the trip to Toronto, under the direction of our advisor, Mrs. Mollosky. On our trip we went sightseeing, shopping, and even to the zoo. As spring came, we held our prom at the Como Restaurant in Niagara Falls. Moving-Up Day and Class Night were soon over as we realized that we would be graduating all too quickly and entering “the real world”. The future held so many different paths for us to follow. Some of us will be world travelers, while some will stay at home. Some of us w ill remain single, while others will enjoy marriages and families. Some of us will go on to college, w hile others will start a career right away. Some of us will struggle, while others will enjoy wealth and success. May we all find happiness!!!
