The 1972 CREST Presented by the Senior Class of Wilson Central School Wilson. New York So many roads to choose We start out walking and learn to run. And yes, we’ve just begun. Sharing horizons that are new to us 5 “We’ve Only Just Begun”. The Carpenters The Class of 1972 DEDICATION As students pursue their education, they are guided by many concerned individuals. If they are to receive a truly meaningful education, they must be encouraged and stimulated by example and know that interested people are willing to help. One such person is Mr. William Rosso. Mr. Rosso has been teaching for 21 years, 16 of which he has spent at Wilson teaching mathematics. He has proven to all of his students that math is an exacting subject and a language for all sciences. Not only has he made math fun, but also a challenge. Mr. Rosso has served as a senior advisor for various classes and has coached several sports teams on to victorious results. His diligent work, enduring patience, and undying wit have made him an outstanding teacher. We, the Class of 1972, wish to dedicate our “Crest” to Mr. Rosso. He has proven to be an excellent teacher, as well as a good friend. 9 n Mr. Charles Gamble President A strike? Well.. BOARD OF EDUCATION To the Class of 1972: On behalf of the Board of Education, I wish to express our pride in your development and our confidence in your ability. You have completed a period of preparation and now are entering a time of great personal, as well as national, change. Enter this period with confidence. We wish you the best of luck. Sincerely. Charles E. Gamble President Board of Education Mr. William Pierson Vice President Mr. F Gordon Bullock Clerk 12 Mr. Donald Lafler Mr. Donald Baehr Mrs Agnes Goodman The Wilson Board of Education is made up of a group of concerned citizens from our school district. They spend a great deal of their time making the major decisions that keep our schools running smoothly. Mr. Frank Jeffery Well, it is a little boring! Mr. William O'Connor 13 Mr. Jack Terry Superintendent To the Members of the Class of 1972: I believe your yearbook theme. We Only Just Begun , is quite pertinent for a Senior Class to choose. As young adults, starting out into this complicated world, each of you will find that he has only just begun in many ways. You have just begun to live your life. On the average, most of you have about 50 years yet to live. Thus, for each year you have lived you have about four remaining. Live them with pride, preparation and purpose. You have just begun to make your friends. Even though you have many friends now in and out of school, you will find that there are many, many more to be made during the remainder of your life. Remember, the only way to have a friend is to be one. You have just begun your education and preparation for life. It doesn't matter if you are to continue a formal education or if you are to educate yourself, as you will continue to learn each day for the rest of your life. One is never too old to learn more about himself, his society and the world in which he lives. You have just begun solving the many problems and making the decisions that each individual must face during his life time. Don't follow the crowd. Make your own decisions carefully and dare to be different if it is necessary. I hope that your years of schooling have helped you form the proper habits and attitudes which you will need for a worthwhile and successful future. Even though you have just begun”, your future will be only as good as you care to make it. Continue the good things you have just begun and dispose of those which are of no value to you. In their place establish daily, additional desirable traits which will help you finish satisfactorily the life you have just begun . May I wish only the best to each of you for not only a life that has just begun , but also for one that will be complete, healthy and happy. u Mr. Richard Zipp Assistant Superintendent Mr. F. While she is in the United States, she is living with the families of Bonnie Schendel, Gail Behnke, and Pam Lafler. Maria graduated from San Anthony School in 1971. Here at Wilson, she is taking P.O.D., Speech, Notehand, Office Practice, American History, and Reading Lab. On her return to Peru, she plans to work as a secretary. Maria quickly adapted to our methods and likes it very much here. She asks us to visit her country. Priscilla Hilario is our foreign exchange student from the Dominican Republic. During her stay in the United States, she is living with the Zinck family of Ransomville. She is nineteen years old and has already graduated from her native high school. Here, she is taking Basic Art, Speech, Intermediate Algebra, American Heritage, P.O.D., and Typing. She plans to attend Niagara County Community College later to study Math Administration. Priscilla would like us all to visit her country. 122 SENIOR CLASS ADVISORS The Class of 1972 wishes to express our most grateful thanks to the Class Advisors for all the effort they put forth in making our years at Wilson Central inspirational and fulfilling. Mr. Martin Miller. Mrs. Marjorie Hurlburt, Mrs. Mae Donovan. Mrs. Barbara Woods. Mr. John Rodgers. Mr. William Leardini. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Our class officers led us through the many activities sponsored in our last year at Wilson Central. They deserve a great amount of credit for all the work and time spent in making our Senior year a rewarding one. Treasurer—Pete Monahan, President—Elena Stacey. Secretary—Rosemary Dysinger, Vice-President—Mike Gombert. 123 IN APPRECIATION The major activity of each year's Senior Class is the publication of Crest. Each incoming Crest Staff relies on the advisor to teach the necessary skills and to help with the many problems which arise. Mr. James Stephens has served as Crest advisor for five years. He has devoted himself to each Crest, giving up many hours of his spare time. His patience, humor, and excellent guidance have helped the staff members and editors through many difficulties. The members of the Class of 1972 wish to express their appreciation to Mr. Stephens for his inspiration and dedication in helping us to produce our Crest. We hope that by making our book the best possible, we can in this small way thank him. 124 CLASS HISTORY Kindergarten: Remember trying to impress the teachers with those shiny, bright apples? Those were the days, my friend, of crackers and milk, finger painting and naps on the rugs. First Grade: Everyone looked forward to show and tell time. It was Run, Jip, Run! Go, Dick, Go! Learning to read was great fun. Second Grade: This year put forth advanced math—adding and subtracting. It also gave us our great penmanship. Dot those i’s”. Third Grade: We made butter to put on our crackers. Math became more difficult with multiplication and the use of Flash Cards. Fourth Grade: We played kickball on the blacktop. Our multiplication tables really gave us a terrible time. We also took a trip to the Historical Museum. Fifth Grade: Remember our fieldtrip to Fort Niagara; and the way we “dosey-doed our partners in the Virginia Reel? Also the year of new math puzzled us. Sixth Grade: Our cultural interests were widened by a trip to the Albright Knox Art Gallery. Orientation and moving-up day brought us closer to entering Junior High. Seventh Grade: Mad magazines were always being confiscated by the teachers. Also there was the studying of New York State History with Mr. Rosati. How could we ever forget the “3 B's?” Eighth Grade: The exciting adventures of Johnny Tremain kept us busy for at least one half year. Many of us enjoyed having our own Jr. High Party and many other activities started to dominate our extra time. Ninth Grade: We finally got to attend Senior High Assemblies. All of us looked forward to Mr. Rosso’s matchmaking classes! There was also our class picnic—water balloons and all! Tenth Grade: Ribit, Ribit—the year of the frog! Our Biology Club took us to the Botanical Gardens and Museum of Natural Science. Our class picnic survived in sub zero weather—again with water balloons. Eleventh Grade: Remember those Festivals! We beat the Seniors in magazine sales in an all time high. Our class rings finally arrived. Another rainy picnic at Beaver Island. Twelfth Grade: We were the first class to beat the Juniors in magazine sales. Pictures, announcements, and calling cards came. There was so much to do! Those were the days, my friend, we thought they’d never end! 123 SENIOR ACHIEVEMENTS Don Airgood—Roosevelt Beach. Wilson—Science. Industrial Arts Major. Baseball 2 4. Golf 4. Shop Helper 4.
