Her single-mindedness of purpose and the high musi- cal standards she set show clearly in the annual musical productions which are perfect in every detail. Not only has she led the Wilson Central School choruses to victory in competitions year after year, but, for the past four years, she, along with Mrs. Ruby Malin and Mr. and Mrs. McGrath, has helped lead our senior class to its goal, graduation. Miss Lotta Coombs has devoted her life to teaching, having completed thirty-nine years in- structing in the sixth and seventh grades in the Wilson schools. Her teaching career at Wilson began in the old building when Mr. Mac llroy was principal. She is now teaching the third genera- tions of some families. Her opinion of children, They're smarter younger, reveals her quiet sense of humor. Miss Coombs says with a smile, Although my students now hear more and see more, it is not necessarily an improvement. Asked if she were especially proud of any of her former pupils, she answered, I am proud of all my students. TABLE OF CONTENTS FIFTH FLOOR: Administration . . FOURTH FLOOR: Seniors . . . Each of the groups and classes in Wilson Central School is considered as some part of our imagin- ary Wilson Central Store. We have considered the administration as the directors and managers of our store with their offices on the fifth floor. Coming down the ele- vator to the fourth floor, we find the graduating class, indicated as long and faithful customers, and those who have built up the best credit ratings. The remainder of the classes may be found on the third floor relative to their stand- ings in the store. On the second floor can be found the activities of Wilson Central School, which we have called our General Merchandise Section. Our Sports Department is located on the first floor and is composed of all the sports activities at Wilson. The Ransomville School has this year been added to the Wilson Central School District. This we call our Branch Store. It works exactly as the bigger store in Wilson and has its own sec- tion in the Crest. We proudly present our brainchild, the 'I955 Crest, with the hope that its readers will enioy it as much as the staff has enioyed producing it. FIFTH FLOOR DIRECTORY OFFICES: ' Board of Directors . The purposes of the club are to improve the library services of the school and to stimulate reading interests. This year, members worked on such proiects as costumes for the Christmas pageant and bigger and better bulletin boards. CUSTOMERS Keeping the students well-informed of all the happenings within the walls of Wilson Central is a full time job. Ganshaw JUNIOR HIGH HONOR SOCIETY BEST CUSTOMERS 1 One of the many outstanding activities during the school year at Wilson is the Honor Society banquet held every spring for those honor students receiving an award. The honor society is composed of students who have an honor roll average, and who have earned enough points to receive an award pin. WCS has a point system whereby a certain number of points are given for all work, activities, and organizations at the school. One hundred twenty-five points are re uired for a bronze W pin, one hundred fifty points for a silver W pin, and two hundred points for a gocld W pin. Our Honor Society has proven very success- ful and we are proud of it. The Junior High Honor Society is composed of students in the seventh and eighth grades. Because there aren't as many possibilities of earning points in the iunior high as there are in the senior high, only 50 points are required for a felt W . Students may earn points by having an honor roll average, partici- pating in sports, and having a perfect attendance record. Senior high students may earn points in addition to these by participation in plays, the Christmas pageant, clubs, or being a class officer. Serving both teacher and students, the Wilson Central School Student Council has become an important and significant part of school life. Meeting every Tuesday noon, the aims of the Student Council are to pro- mote sfudent government, to develop leadership, and to encourage scholarship and participation in extra- curricular activities. Under the leadership of its advisors, Mr. Clayton Loveioy and Mr. William Johnson, the student council sent Christmas CARE packages to foreign countries. The student council has sponsored several well received assemblies including a highly successful amateur show. One of the maior accomplishments in vocational guidance at Wilson has been the formation of a Teachers Club 'by Miss Grace Evans. The purpose of the club is to familiarize the students with teaching careers today and to help them decide which age child they would like to work with. They accomplish this by assisting in the grades. The club visited Buffalo State Teachers College in December and had various informative speakers at their evening meetings at school. The chorus, composed of forty-eight members, under the leadership of Mrs. Mariorie Hurlburt, offers a foundation ithat is adequate for the students wishing to maior in ,music after high school while at the same time building rp each student's musical taste. After school opened, the chorus began rehearsals for Wilson's Christmas pro- gram. Judith Witkop and Kenneth Zehmke represented the choir in NYSSMA. COACH WALTER HUTCHISON POLLY MOOT This past football season saw several veteran players back on the gridiron, but unfortunately their experience was not enough to make it a suc- cessful season. Despite the fact that the team lost four games and tied one, they showed a never-say-die spirit that had them fighting for every yard, every game. Much of this fighting spirit was instilled by Coach Hutch, who spent long afternoons after school drilling the funda- mentals into the new recruits and teaching the finer points of the game to the veteran players. Perhaps the most unusual game of the season was that played with Lewiston-Porter, at Lew- Port. Played on a field covered with water, and in a drenching rain, it ended in a O to O tie. The Lakemen were more successful in cross country. For the fourth consecutive year, Wilson maintained its superiority and won the trophy as Denny Brydges, Pat Martin, and Charles Nickels took the first three places in the county meet. The Wilson trackmen got off to a fine start this season. Traditionally strong in track, the Lakemen again this year gave a fine account of themselves. The team showed more strength in distance running and in field events than in the sprints. A highlight of the season was the setting of a new school record by Jim Martin, as he ran the 440 in 55 seconds. The basketball team got off to a slow start, losing its first five league games, but rallied later in the season to win all its remaining contests. The highlight of the season was the game against the undefeated Lew-Port team on the Wilson court. The Lakemen, fighting furiously during the last few seconds of the game, dumped in two baskets to make the final score 55-53, thus becoming the first team to beat Lew-Port during the season. Wilson ended the season in third place. The baseball team this year was spearheaded by the excellent pitching of Chuck Boyer and Bob Moody. Defense lapses and lack of hitting in the clutch caused most of the team's losses. SPORTS DEPT. 63 FOOTBALL I. W. Claypoole, M. Wiepert, R. Winters, A- DFGWBS, D. Walp, J. Mangan, R. Klien 2. C.
