But the feeling of pleasure and ac- complishment that we have experienced while helping the Crest to grow, like that felt by parents in watching a child grow to maturity, makes these problems seem unimportant, even though in both cases we know that the finished product is not perfect. Necessary to the successful completion of any amateur or student project is the steadying hand of the professional or faculty advisor. In the art department, Mrs. Haberer has made available her fund of knowledge and experience without stifling the originality of the staff. As general advisor, Mr. Schmidle has shown patience, understanding and a knack for making molehills out of mountains. To these two people we simply say a sincere Thank You. Row 3, L. to R.: D. Since the appearance of Coach Walter Hutchison on the Wilson sport scene in 1945, the sports program at Wilson High has expanded rapidly. Several new sports have been added to the perennial basketball and baseball. In six-man football, the Lakemen have turned out powerful teams which won five straight championships and their seven year record is 36 wins against 11 losses. The Lakemen have been just as successful in track which came a few years later. They have won five straight championships and show no sign of weakening. Last year Doug Robinson placed second in the Class A sectionals, setting a school record of 2: 10:8 in the 880 yard run. ln the second year of CIOSS-Collntry Wilson maintained its superiority, winning all its meets handily. Hutch, with the able assistance of Miss Arlene Caporali, has given the students at Wilson a fine intramural program in most of these sports. Hutch and Cap have also provided the younger set around Wilson with an excellent recreational program through the, now, well-established Saturday basketball. All gym classes are also provided with instructions and facilities for at least ten dif- ferent sports in a physical education program designed to keep all students in good health. 60 L.l0R K RK CRCSS CGUNTRY Honghtling, M. The Wilsonites looked forward to an outstanding basketball season this year with eight returning letter- men and several excellent prospects up from a strong A 1-V club.
