Unlike our predecessors, we are going to acknowledge the possibility of disappointmentsand reverses for some of US,'Ul117 fOr the present we are going to discount these possibilities as we have anticipated them. We have recorded, tabulated, and sum arized the pre- dictions of those concerned in our welfare, and now we make public by way of P ropheey what the future may hold for each of us. Floyd Whiteman, the boy who dgeams about being a sheriff,is very likely to become a big time private eye. Who knows he may someday be another Sam Spade ornwith his photographic ability perhaps another Casey, Crime Photo- grapher. Jo Lentell seems to have some definite plans for a business course. In all probability after completing her work in Salina or Wichita, we will find holding down a good job in the business world. At any rate we will give a vote of confidence in that she is likely to succeed in her plans for her her the future o Al aw shows unusual promise as a successful stockman and farmer. Bill sp Perhaps, we can elect Bill to the State Legislature in the future and profit d t the same time send a by his ability to meet people and make friends an a man to Topeka who is well aware of the problems of this community and nearby surrounding area. At any rate Bill, we expect great things of you in the years to come . Eugene Otis with his athletic ability has a bright future in store for him in the event he chooses to make the most of this opportunity. Four years of college will provide him with the educational qualifications and the added experience that will permit him to carry on indefinitely in this field. Jim Albin certainly has no fear of work and at the same time apparently 1 has the knack for making money. This is a good combinationandwill go a ong ways in seeing Jim financially independent in the years to come. There are those who would have us believe that the navy has a strong appeal to J im. The slogan, 'Join the Navy and see the World, is no idle promise, but oh, the discipline that goes with it. J Anita Dalquest has expressed the desire on numerous occasions to become f h oli at Kansas State, so a Home Demonstration Agent. With four years 0 80 0 T18 thi a reality Let's have her keep the little green Ford Anita can make s . she can putt-putt-putt around overthe county upon completion of her work at Manhattan. Seriously though we are of the opinion there is a real future in this field for Anita if she will make up her mind to accomplish as much. Kathleen lKatyJ Sprecker, with a variety of talents and the ability to shows little interest in a career. make good at most anything she might try C ld it be that she and another member of the class have some definite and ou not too distant plans for the future. John Parks, the soloist of our class, was giving the furniture and honey business inthe Grove serious consideration, but in as much as John has given up this idea there is no need to let you in on the story. Rumor hae it that John is considering a hitch in the navy. It is quite probable that John has in mind the schooling offered in electrical engineering by the navy. Thus, we have the opportunity to really let our imaginations run riot in describing what the hold for her After a great deal of concentration and frustration fut f we gginclgge that she will make an excellent teacher in the primary field. Bob Gleswein, our class president, has been choosen the one most likely to be a real success regardless of what he may attempt to do in the years to come. Not to be denied the opportunity to be wrong again, we believe that in the future you will find that Bob, too, has become a successful farmer and st ockman . Irene Brownell, better-known as Rene' by all her friends, seems to be still another who wishes to do additional school work in the clerical field. Barring unforseen complications, we can feel reasonably safe in predicting a bright future for her in the business field. Elaine Hutchinsii, llll tliivgirl with the ability to manipulate the keyboard, has indicated on numerous occasions that she would like toteach or do sec- retarial work. As both require additional schooling, there is no need to even hazard a guess as to what she will be doing in the immediate future. Upon completion of her schooling, Elaine will be able to realize either or both of her ambitions. Larry Holt, the youngest member of our class in years with us, joinedour class this Year. Even so, we feel that we know Larry well enough to prophecy tllgat he will do well in whatever he may choose to do upon completion of hiS 1 sh 3011001 CHPCBP- Perhaps he too, like several other members of our class, S 81Y5-US an enlistment in the navy serious consideration. A2 E H19, WILSEY Ecuo 49, SENIOR CLASS POEM Forty-nine is the year of our class, And all the others we do surpass. Filled with-dignity and poise, We're just fifteen girls and boys. Our president is first in line, You all know him, he's Bob Gieswein. He's full of fun and whenever seen It's always with a gal by the name of Hgrtlgin. Around the girls Floyd doesn't shine, That's the reason why we call him Strychn1ne. He works at Riegels and stays at the hotel And when it comes to typing, he really does swell. Will that be all? and thank you ! You'll hear Katy Sprecker say, If you go up to the store on any Saturday. President of the Student Council, a cheerleader too She's the gal who helps rally the boys through. When something ornery has been done, Bill Alspaw will be credited if just in fun For he's around when there's fun and noise, He's a favorite among the girls and boys. In her studies Deloris is smart. Her school marks prove it is a real art. In her nickname she has won great fame, We all call her Hank, you know who's to blame! She's rather plump, and short as can be, Maybe she'll grow, we'll just wait and see. Sometimes Larry acts like he's in a coma. But we know why, he's from Oklahoma! Don't misunderstand, we think he's fine, And now we'l1 move on down the line. There goes a little green car, it really roared! Now I know why, it's Anita's Ford. When four o' clock comes and the school bell rings, Anita begins to shout and sang. H Some say she's full of the ole Harry, we agree! A11 jqking aside, she's as swell as can be. Eugene is tall, and P1975 basketball, When it comes to girls he dates them all! Some say he likes to wait at a country school door But I've heard others say, he goes for a soPh0m01'9 In study hall he always m9118805 8 f6W Capers, And then comes up short on his test papers. , ,L 1 I ff-, 1-ul, 'L iii 'nl' 13. Irene Brownell lives in town, She really shines if Junior is around. She has a very pretty voice. When it comes to sports, she's our choice. We all like her, and we all know, She's our friend, wherever we go. Bonnie Hertlein is sweet and nice, Full of sugar, sweets, and spice. She thinks Bob is simply swell! And for Chevrolets she really fell! Who's that senior in the sophomore row? It's Jim Albin you might know! He's another lad who plays basketball, Pretty good, though he isn't tall. He's always late getting to school But sharp as a tack as a general rule. Who's that sitting over there? That's Jo Ann with the pretty hair. She is dark and very tall, And plays forward in basketball. In her studies she is fast, But let's move on, she's not last. Johnnie is our senior treasurer, And carries on his task with pleasure. .He has no girl, but Weill just say, Where there's a will there's always a way. PLAY CAST Mom Bryant Marjorie Strouts Millie Bruce Doris Veal Dad Bryant Gene Hudson Timothy O'Creedon Leroy Calhoun Patsy Bryant Jauneta Holt Mac Johnston Bill Hutchinson Speedy Charles Illk Yvonne England Neva Veal Marietta Bryant Barbara Anderson Tex O'Dell Dean Whittemore Wally Bruce Charles Phillips Prudence Peck Doris Veal The play revolves around the Bryant family. Mom Bryant with her self- inflicted aches and pains, amounting to gall stones and high blood pressure is indeed a scream. Her well meaning spouse, Dad Bryant, with his mania for fires andlradio and magazine contests gives her ample support in making the play a success. Marietta and her 4O-dollar' a week boy friend, Wally, are suffering from too much family. Speedy and Patsy, with their juvenile parts, keep the play moving along on its hilarious way. Prudence, the town gossip, and Deputy O'Dell are interesting. In brief, the play is an excellent and entertaining illustration of what money will and won't do. Juniors, you and your play sponsor, Mrs. Reed, take a bow. Add another real accomplishment to the highlights of your high school career, and give us another good play next year as seniors. B t. Ita not ust juniors and seniors you see as you look over Sggiigowdnggeover these arejthe faculty, the custodian, the board of educa-- tion and their wives or husbands as which ever the case may be. New that we are all assembled here, letjls go down and see what the juniors have planned for the night. The Deep Sea theme is evident as an aqua fish net and enumerable fish and sea horses are to be seen hanging from the ceil- ing and walls of the dining hall. Some of them are a little grotesque but still give the desired effect and carry out the senior colors of turquoise and gold very nicely. The tables are decorated accordingly and the waiters and waitresses have arrived in navy uniforms. On second glance you see they are Loren Evans, Rita Hinkle, Moyne Morris, and Olive Whiteman. A delicious meal of sea food has been prepared by the Methodist Ladies. Upon completion of this delightful dinner, our junior president and toastmaster, Charles Phillips , launches the evening's program as he extends an official welcome to the 'Seniors of '49.
