Phullup Krahn tromboneClass urst MUSIC DEPARTMENT The musuc department of Nulmot Hugh School nas always been an umportant part of the school and thus year ut has uncreased un umportance It us tradutuonal and appropruate that musucal traunung should be uncluded un the curruculum of the school Mr Angelo LaValle s the head of the musuc department The department consusts of several groups They are the Concert Band the March ung Band the Pep Band the Mauorttes Gurls Chorus Muxed Chorus the Boys Chorus Wuth the exceptuon of the Boys Chorus all of the organuzatuons take part un the festuval whuch us held at Whutewater The Concert Band us composed of those students who have the abuluty to play the average school musuc whule the marchung band us made up of those who can not only play satusfactoruly but can also march The Pep Band us composed of only the best musucuans of the band The Pep Band plays for Pep Meetungs at home and goes to football games away The Mauorettes appear at concerts and at parades Wuth the exceptuan of the drum mayor all mo uorettes must play an unstrument un the Concert Band Each of the three choruses meets once a week The members learn the fundamentals of harmony and group sungung They also partucupote un the annual Band Concert and the Gurls Chorus sungs at the annual Commencement exercuses Any member of the Musuc Department may euther sung or play a solo a duet 0 any other ensemble un the solo contests whuch are held each Aprul Thus year a great many students played or sang solos and the overall results were very aood The results were Jean Payton Jean Payton Jerry Roberts Dewayne Caddock Lorraune Hanson Sally Corsu Ruth Raether Judy Schnurr Russell Badtke Arlene Colombe Glorua Gruluch Nancy Marzahl Joe Oberhofer Edna Otto Glorua Gullmore Leona Hanson John McDonough Joanne Morrus Eduth Gullmore Nancy Marzahl Ed Dewayne Caddock Mardelle Kerkman Mardelle Kerkman Jum Kracmer Jum Kracmer uth Gullmore Eugene Van Der Zee Mary Bush Marlene Hoffman bass clarunet vocal vocal saxophone melophone vocal flute clarunet saxophone tenor saxophone vocal trumpet tuba puano puano vocal Clarunet flute vocal trumpet duet oboe vocal trombone Clartnet bass clarunet clarunet trumpet tenor saxophone furst urst wuth thurd furst wuth' furst wutn second urst second second second seconf' furst second urst second second urst lrst urst second urs wuth second second urst urst second urst urst Thus year Mr LaValle organuzed an offucers corps to govern the band The top of fucers are the captaun and the drum major Next are the three lueutenants the three ser geants and the three corporals The drum major us un command of the marchung band durung marchung sessuons whule the captaun us the assustant durector of the band The Musuc Department has also set up a merut and a demerut system to help students wun awards and to punush errung students Through thus system the members have a sort of a student government organuzatuon and as us usually the case thus proved effectuve and satus factory The Mass Band concert held at Burlungton was attended by some of our better musuc pupuls who took part un the concert there under the durectuon of Mr Paul Andersen, of Mulwaukee State Teachers College Twelve pupuls also represented our school at the Mass Chorus Concert at Burlungton under the durectuon of Maruan Johnson, also of Mulwaukee State Teachers College I I F . , A f. .
