I'd like to thank everyone here for their support of us over the years and for making it possible for all of us to be here. I'd also like to offer my classmates my sincere congratulations on their achievements and wish them good luck in the future. We finally made it, guys! Eleanor Roosevelt once said, The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. That is my message to everyone here today. Believe in your dreams and, by doing so, believe in yourself. Take your dreams and make them reality, for no dream is too big if you are willing to work for it. Accept the challenge of your drams and challenge yourself to do your best, to achieve your goals. Flealize the importance of a single person - know that you, even though you are only one, can change not only your future, but the future of others as well. All of us have had drams at one point in our lives. What about this dream we are living right now - graduation? I bet some of you thought this dream would never come true, right? But we all kept pushing and working and here we are today, the 1987 graduating class, with a whole audience here just for us. You have achieved this dream - how many more can you achieve in your lifetime? Don't ever limit yourself - go out into the world and do your best. My mom always told me, All you can do is the best you can do, and this is where her advice got me. Please take her advice - do your best to achieve your dream or goal. Work for that goal, but never harbor doubt. Don't look for the reasons why you cannot achieve your goal - rather, decide how you will achieve that goal and how you will feel when you succeed. Dream big, but don't dream too big. Challenge yourself, but don't set yourself up for failure. Don't, however, be afraid of failure. Be willing to take risks and if you fail, do so graciously. One failure means little in comparison to many successes. Always be will- ing to work a little harder, a little longer, because only by giving a dream your all can you succeed. Believe in your dreams, but more importantly, believe in yourself. Believe in the good you can do as only one person. Never forget your individual importance. As Helen Keller said, I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something, I will not refuse to do the something I can do. Please remember: you are important even standing alone. Accept the challenge of your dreams and thus accept the challenge of believing in yourself. Thank you very much. Class History Class of 1987 by Richard Smith All Wilmington High School's a stage, and the class of 1987 merely players. They have their exits and entrances, and all students in their time play many parts, his acts being four years. First the freshmen, arriving one day earlier than the rest, to meet their first principal, Mr. DeRosa, and class advisor, Ms. Dable. They are quickly introduced to Wildcat school spirit by a football victory on Thanksgiving, and by the varsity hockey team, and their Division ll State Final game at Boston Garden. Their real treat was yet to come, however, a free trip to a real circus at Shriner's Auditorium, courtesy of an oil spill. Despite the adversity, they have sur- vived the dreaded freshman year, but change is in the air. Then come the sophomores, greeted early in September by a man named Paul T. Fleming, known worldwide for his brief interruptions. He re-introduced the revolutionary corridor pass and a new drug policy. They elect a class president called Spaz and Miss Fitz is advisor of their class. Anyone who is confused by these changes take heart, I would be too, if I were you, thank God I'm not! Still more changes would be to come as the plan to renovate is passed. With the end of the year comes a celebration for making it Halfway There. Next are the juniors, met not on- ly by updated changes to the student handbook, but a pending change of scenery as the school prepares to undergo reconstruction. Ms. Schmidt becomes advisor number three. She helps the class to be a successful junior prom at the Sheraton Bolling Green. As a bit of foreshadowing, they are put through a wild senior week which included ten fire drills in one day. As some of the dust from the hard working construction workers begins to settle they are out of school early and gone for the sum- mer, not knowing what will be in store when they return in the fall. Then come the seniors, a year older and feeling a year wiser. Mr. Fleming's plea for school spirit is weakened by the football team's perfect record, but quickly turned around by MVC champ in basketball. Eric and Denise would reign at homecoming, and Jen, Denise, Missy, and Tina continue their work as class officers. Seniors are given special passes to go to a lounge that is never open. After the hectic time of applications, the senior slide of- ficially begins, highlighted by an 87 Day party, and the Senior Prom at the Colonial Hilton. Last scene of all, that ends this strange eventful history, is senior sign out. We leave the halls of WHS forever, and take these many memories with us always. Thank you. 173 CLASS WILL I, Butch Alpers, leave the dying legend 362 to my buddy John Rago. I, Ron Barber, leave the fun of senior year to my brother C.J.
