All home rooms are represented in this organ- ization. The purpose of the House of Delegates is to serve the school and the community, to assist the Student Council and the Traffic Squad, and to develop co- operation, scholarshio, and citizenship. Each year the members of the House of Delegates present several programs. Two forums which they gave this year were How Our American Schools Compare with Those of Other Countries? and What Are the Effects of Television on High School Students? The former, which consisted of discussions of the Educational Systems of ltaly, Germany, China, Palestine, and Greece was held twice because of its popularity. They also presented the Pearl Harbor Day Assembly which is annually under their direction. Besides these school activities they are active in community projects. To- gether with the Student Council, they made the i950 Community Eund Drive a success in Wilmington High School. The Senior officers are James Brown and James Chung, Co-Presidents, and Bill Crapper, Treasurer. The other Senior members include David Amos, Bonnie Bandiera, Lillie Daugherty, Marvin Berman, Genevieve Davis, Marylou Gawinsl-ci, Mary Lou Gilfoil, Maryanne Hairsine, Lambert Heisler, John Lore, Ann McLearie, Albert DiStephano, James Talmo, Janet Scheing, Barbara Hinton, and Frank Magazino. , r . Among these are the annual Freshman Frolic, the selling of various novelties, the Saturday night dances, the securing of busses for foot- ball games played outside the city, and the awarding Service Medals, and the awarding of prizes at graduation. After the school was painted, it was the feeling of both the faculty and the student body that the school should continue to loolc tidy and attractive. The Student Council heeded the call and undertook a Keep Your School Clean campaign. Santa Claus and Student Council were synonymous during the 1950 Christmas season. The Christmas Program in the auditorium, the filling of baskets for the poor, and the collection of cards for hospitalized veterans were Santa's gifts. A humanitarian act was performed when this group with the help of the House of Delegates planned the adoption ofa European war orphan. The organization holds membership in The New Castle Student Council Association and The Phila- delphia Suburban Student Council Association. On a breezy day in September of '48, the gates of the vast stadium at Delaware Avenue and Monroe Street were once again flung open as we, three hundred-fifty bewildered spectators, groped along to our seats - - some of us to remain spectators and some to be participants in the all-star, all-event game. It did not take us very long to find out that Seat 209 was not next toSeat 210, and that an elevator was not available to reach the upper tiers. After getting situated, we settled back in our seats to hear Commissioner Fulmer's welcoming address, after which he threw out the first ball to start the game rolling. Behind the plate, Chief Umpire Allen bellowed a familiar cry, Play Ball! The inning began with a bang in the form of the Freshman Frolic,which was closely followed by the get-acquainted party for our own team. These events started us off on the right foot and laid the foundation which was to play an important part in our future. The first hits were garnered when Marshall Robertson and Margaret Geiszler were elected battery-mates of our Sophomore Players. Hardly had we settled back and stopped cheering when we were confronted be a class party. This proved to be good strategy for it brought a large turnout that really went for extra bases. Now came the play that brought the crowd to its feet, the Memorial Day Assembly. Pitcher Marshall Robertson lef off by extending greetings to the three participating clergymen, the Reverend Donald Mayberry, The Very Reverend Dr. Thomas A. Lawless, ancl Rabbi Jacob Kraft. This play, as you may recall, followed the traditional pattern that the Memorial Day program be presented by the Sophomore Athletes. The final spark ofthe inning came when Joanne Kreer was sent in to pinch- hit as an eleventh year officer with Marshall Robertson still batting clean-up. We scored again in the second inning with the Thanksgiving Day Assembly in which the combined talents of the band and glee-club, along with the honored guest, The Reverend Mr. Francis J. Tierney of St. Mary's R.C. Church, cleared the bases with a program that will never take a backseat in our memory. With the aid of Coach Gause, the eleventh year class party proved to be a sure bet, as a large number witnessed the rally. B,qp44y 44!
