Oh, how bewildering were Those TirsT Tew days which Tound you losT in a sea oT unTamiliar Taces and Toreign scenes! The Teeling oT depression was soon liTTed, however, by discovering new and inTeresTing personaliTies. As a resulT OT This ThrusT inTo new surroundings, new Triends. and new ideas, your ouTlook on liTe began a quick change, and in The Three years OT high school, has conTinued To do so aT record-breaking speed. The weaTher- man Turned againsT us, Tor ThaT morning began as a dark, dismal day, and The river was heavy wiTh unpleasanT odors. NaTure's gloomy display Tailed To dim The pros- pecTs oT a good Time: dancing TeeT To The rhyThm oT TasT recordings and conTinuous laughTer managed To brighTen one spoT on The Delaware River. LaTer, Though, auTumn saw us seTTled down and sTudying hard. The promoTion in January I945 marked The TirsT year in high school. Along wiTh The consciousness oT belonging To The school, came The peculiar Teeling ThaT you had been There Tor ages and ages, junior high seemed so Tar behind. The commercials really began oTTice work wiTh daily Typing exercises and slow progress in shorThand, while The academics bore up under American hisTory and English grammar. Again we won The conTesT among The Three one-acT plays. This Time iT was The LosT ElevaTor . ThaT winTer was very long, and The lessons were excepTionally hard. There seemed To be no end To The grind. Do you remember your ioy when one sunny morning you awoke To find spring had silenTly crepT in Through The nighT? lnsTanTly There spread an epidemic oT spring Tever. How we all welcomed her arrival: plans were immediaTely made Tor a picnic aT Baynard STadium. On The day oT The evenT dark clouds ThreaTened iTs success, buT in spiTe oT showers The picnic Took place while joyous youTh laughed aT NaTure's Tears.
