Wilarccn 1900 volant raw Introduction Faculty Seniors Underclassmen Activities Sports Ads 2 Wilmington plain grove pul ask i community row bzcfcrd Welcome to Wilmington Area! This small, rural community, nestled in the heart of Amish country, offers the best of both worlds to its residents and visitors Here serenity is found within minutes of bustling cities. It provides a unique learning atmo- sphere which offers many opportunities for cultur- al. social, and intellectual growth. One can enjoy an evening at a rock concert or the solitude of quiet moments at the lake. At the same moment, one can view a jet plane overhead and observe an Amish buggy heading slowly to market. Wel- come to Wilmington Area — a community of con- trasts. KR 3 Most of us have pretty tough schedules in school, but we always seem to find time to do the things we enjoy. It seems as though there's always time during the day that we can use to have a rap session, go to a football game, relax, flirt(!), or just have a good time with friends. School is demanding — especially when we re involved in many activities — but, the entire day is worth it when we have a chance to sit down and do something for ourselves. CW 6 w2'vg cpt tonight We've Got Tonight — the theme of the 1979 Prom. It was appropriate, because we had an entire night of music, good food, dancing, and good friends. In between eating and dancing we crowned our Swedish king (Bjorn Lyrvall) and his queen (Peg- gy Womer), and we honored our junior prince (Mark Kaufman) and princess (Karen Kaufman), as well. During the Prom, the dance floor was filled with couples The spiked heels had long been kicked off. and everyone was having a great time The memories of the '79 Prom are many A beau- tiful silk rose was placed on the tables beside each girl's seat, and each person was given a small scroll to remind him her of what the prom was all about The We've Got Tonight Prom will never be here again. Someday, the roses will be lost, the corsages will wilt, the pictures will fade, the scrolls will become crumpled .. but the memories will live on forever and we'll have tomorrow. CW The Fine Arts experience addsan enriching dimension. And, at Wilmington, themusic program offers many op- portunities for our talented musicians. The spirit and en- thusiasmof theWAHS march- ing band lends a special kind of excitement to games and parades: while the now sounds of the Jazz Ensemble draw wild applause from an appreciative audience. Then, listen to the harmonious blending of voices preparing for a lively entertaining con- cert and there's a quality mixtureofmusicalactivities. Follow the colorful arrows down the steps to the art room and view the clever displays designed and exe- cuted by students — a trib- ute to the artistic endeavors of many creative persons. Or. step backstage and wit- ness the dedication of a cast rehearsing their latest play. Working long hours with them are the crews who construct and paint set. create lighting effects, and design new costumes. Many Drama Club members play dual roles, performing technical as well as on- stage duties. These are the Fine Arts — an experience that provides many memorable moments at WAHS. KR blu2 Hey! Catch the spirit of a Friday night football game! Picture a crisp October evening . . . the stadium lights burn brightly overhead . the fans hurry to their favor- ite spots .. the cheerleaders shout their greetings and the cheers begin the air is filled with the rousing sounds of Alabama Jubilee' as the band rings out the WAHS fight song to welcome team and coaches to the field Its all the spirit — that Greyhound spirit — so much a part of our Wilmington tradition. The thrill of tense grid-iron encounters the excited cheers of encour- agement and the enthusiastic musical notes of support from the stands . the taste of victory or defeat — these make the lingering memories last long after the season ends And that's the spirit, Wilmington! KR ing olt co 10 11 Life at WAHS is loaded with smiles and laughter; disappointments and tears. Each day brings challenges to meet ... questions to be answered ... projects to sweat over... problems to solve ... friendships to treasure ... happy times to share, and quiet moments in which to reflect. Changing classes, different teachers, new friends, old friends, dances ... Freshman ... Sophomore ... Junior ... years of growth. Our final and most important year is now upon us. Adjustment and growth become knowledge. Trusts have been built, encouragement given ... for hopes of the future, fond memories of the past and the dawn of a new decade. We dress our days in silken robes. The money comes, the money goes ... We know it's all a passing phase. We light our lamps for atmosphere. And hang our hopes on chandeliers. We re going wrong we re gaining weight. We re sleeping long and far too late. And so it's time to change our ways ... But I've loved these days. Now as we indulge In things refined. We hide our hearts from harder times. A string of pearls, a foreign car... Oh, we can only go so far... On caviar and cabernet. We'll have to change our jaded ways ... But I've loved these days. So before we end (and then begin) — We'll drink a toast to how it's been ... A few more times that I can say ... I've loved these days. Billy Joel We, the graduating class of 1980, would like to express our sincere thanks to you. Miss Dore. for all the laughter, hope, and knowledge you have brought us. From Beowolf, King Arthur, and Antigone to Wuthering Heights, Great Ex- pectations, and Shakespeare From participles, gerunds, and infinitives to class dues, diplomas, and announcements We had our good days ... and our bad — what once was happy, now is sad as we turn the page, and say goodbye — a tear is shed as we try — our hands at reality. With this ... we leave you, and you leave us — but you will remain always in our hearts. And thus ... we dedicate our senior section ... to you.
