There were new buildings, new teachers, old teachers with new ideas, and of course, new students. Studying, basketball games, tests, more tests, football scrambles, stay-in-school campaigns, pep rallies, plays, teachers, students--all these are part of the WI-IHS Memory that involved loss and gain in the changing year of 1965-66. Phil. 4:8 MRS. GWENDOLYN DUVALL April 14, 1938 - Nov. 25, 1965 She was an inspiration to her students, friends, loved ones--an ideal for which we all should strive. She had a maturity and vision of life that belied her youthful appearance. Her devotion to duty and friends was unshakable. She was a ray of sunlight in a too often dark world. She was all that is good and pure. In loving memory of Gwendolyn DuVall, we, her friends, humbly dedicate ourselves to a search for peace and love among all men. Superintendent: RAY HARDISON SCHOOL BOARD: FRONT ROW: Cleft to rightj B. J. Cartwright, Jonathan Allen, Mrs. Wilson Warren BACK ROW: Malcolm Harris, Roy Clark, James Watford, Roy Ward To the W-H Student Body: Preparing the individual to serve - each in his own capacity - is the role of the public school. For every oppor- tunity we have in our lives today, there is a corresponding responsibility. For the splendid opportunity of freedom, there is the responsibility of safeguarding that freedom! May the students of our school, and especially those who will not be return- ing, accept as their responsibility the job of upholding the high standard of ethics, scholarship, service, and leadership, thus making their contribution to the welfare of our school, our community and our country. Byron, who died at the age of thirty- six, said, The thorns I have reaped are of the tree I planted. They have torn me and my flesh bleeds. I should have known what fruit would spring from such seed. As a group of young people, may you ever be mindful of the truth of such a statement. May you sow only those seeds that will yield for you a prosperous happy life...one of service to your fellowmen .. .and above all, one grounded with an unshakable faith in God. I-IAYS Absentees, phone calls, and excuses plague Mrs. Hays, but she still smiles! W.H.H.S. couldn't get along without her. To The Student Body: The school year 1965-66 has been characterized by an improve-- ment in student attitude toward ac- cepting their share of responsibility for making WHHS a better place. What a principal can accomplish in a year toward school improvement can amount to but little. Add to this the efforts of a large per cent of the teaching force and muchprog- ress can be made. Then if to this can be added a generous sprinkling of student leaders who are not afraid to stand for what is right, there is a recipe for school improvement. Have you contributed anything this year tgffid making W-H a bet- ter school? I express my appreciation to the upperclassmen who have spearheaded the drive for student responsibility, and to the faculty members who gave them leadership and guidance. May this movement gain momentum in the years to come. Graduating seniors, my kindest wishes follow you wherever you go. Sincerely, Bill Garner ..-Ny-f -155-wwf if 5 MRS, DORTHEA BASNETT Bio1ogygB.
