Their many, many hard hours of over-time mean a lot to their students. High School Fczcult Tell us, Mr. Campbell, is that a megaphone or a duncecap? And, does it say Pat or FAT ? The high school faculty for the '63-'64 school year consisted of twenty-two teachers. This is the largest number of full time teachers in the history of W-H. V Five of these teachers are new to Wilmer-Hutchins These are: Mrs. lsreal, Miss Shaw, Miss Dyer, Coach Phillips, and Mr. Greer. All five of these teachers were a welcome addition to the faculty.

What Is a Teacher? Every student has probably asked that very question many times in his school career. Just What E a teacher? That question is best answered in an article found in the January issue of the Balance Sheet, a magazine for business and economic teachers. Between the innocence of infancy and the dignity of maturity, children fall under the in- fluence of a group of people called teachers. Teachers come in assorted sizes, weights, and colors. They have various interests, hob- bies, religions, and beliefsg but they share one creed: To help each student to reach the highest possible degree of personal development. The teacher is a composite. A teacher must have the energy of a harnessed volcano, the efficiency of an adding machine, the memory of an elephant, the understanding of a psychia- trist, the wisdom of Solomon, the tenacity of a spider, the patience of a turtle trying to cross the freeway in rush-hour traffic, the decisiveness of a general, the diplomacy of an ambassador, and the acumen of a Wall Street wizard. He must remember always that he teaches by word but mostly by precept and example. A teacher is Truth with chalk dust in his hair, Beauty with an aching back, Wisdom search- ing for bubblegum, the Hope of the future, with papers to grade. f
