KN -ll We of the EAGLE Staff hope that through the words and pictures of this book we will bring back many memories of the 1953-54 school year. To some of you, this will be only another book to put on a shelf, but as the years pass, we hope it will become more cherished and loved. As you look through these pages,we hope they will bring back the memories of football games, parties, Homecoming, banquets and all the other activities you have taken part in'. We especially wish to thank Mr. Bill Stokes for his cooperation in making the pictures for our yearbook. These pages represent your school and the events of the 1953-54 school year. The sixty piece Wilmer-Hutchins Senior Band has proudly gone through the school year. It marched during half-time at each football game. One of the outstanding drills was a Waltz program in which the band played and waltzed to the tune of Till I Waltz Again With You . The band is under student government for the first time. This procedure has improved our band immensely. The band members select commissioned officers. FLAG-BEARERS We had three members in the Mass Band at the S.M.U. Band Festival this April. The band also went to the Texas Mus i cal Convention in February. The band entered in the , parade at Grand Prairie and tied for second place. . That evening at approximately 8 o'- clock, the curtains were pulled to a packed house. The juniors, suddenly sophisticated, felt their knees shake as they humorously presented lt'sADate . The story opened in the living room of Mr. and Mrs. George Rogers iRoy Wil- son and Norma Toshl. Linda Rogers fPat Pattersonj was preparing for her date that evening. lt seems her sister had made the date for her with Austin Farrell iKenneth Bassl. Much to her dismay, however, fickle Diana Gordon fMaxine McCord, tries to take Austin away from her. Amid a gay plot mix-up members of the high school groupinclud- ed Pat Smith, Norma Paul, Charlotte Taylor, Ray Russell, Reba Clark, and Joyce Williams elect a class president. The play ends merrily with lt's A Date' between Pat Patterson and Kenneth Hare, leaving poor Maxine to ponder upon her wavering loyalty. Horn-tootin' W. H. Floyd, Gwen Stephens, and Peggy Joe Purves, as Queenie the colored maid, add their dash of comedy. Prompters were Glenda Barnett and Melba Jo Martin.
