History The sun was up and 32 little children tripped gaily and eagerly into the first grade room. We had as our teacher Mrs. Leistner, who worked with us until we were on our way to higher education. When we returned to school the next year, we had for our teacher, Miss Brookhart. From then on it was Miss Weinman as our third grade teacher, Mrs. Bain as our fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Bowen as our fifth grade teacher and Mr. Sipe and Mr. Lucas as our seventh and eighth grade teachers respectively. Being an eighth grader, that meant that we would all have the eighth grade test to look forward to and how we all dreaded that dayl But to our amazement it was not so defying at all. The summer passed and we returned as Greenies', with Mrs. Vining as Our sponsor. Completely ignorant of high school life, we lost our way to classes, and turned up at the right place at the wrong time. After a few weeks, however, everyone had recovered sufficiently, only to face 'Freshmen lnitiation.' This was a sad day, indeed, with all the becoming make-up smeared on our faces. The girls wore men's underwear backwards and bib overalls inside out, and backwards with many peculiar accessories The boys paraded around in short dresses made from gunny sacks with their slips hanging out. We were all generously treated to onions when we misbehaved. The first period after dinner the seniors took us up town and treated us to ice cream bars, which tasted very good after all the onions. This was a day that we will always remember as long as we live. All this accomplished, we were happy to turn over the iob of being Freshmen to the oncoming 'Greenies' while we journeyed on as Sophomores with little knowledge of how busy we would be. Our sponsor for this year was Mr. Manken, who ably assisted us in our activities. When we returned as Juniors, we were lucky to have Mr. Games as our sponsor, who worked untiringly with LS in proiects we undertook. At last, Seniors! As upperclassmen we were then busier than all other years put to- gether. The work was enjoyed, though, when we knew it would be our last. Finally we reached our goal ------ Commencement. Four wonderful years of fun and hard work are now gone forever, but we take with us, a knowledge of life which has laid for us a foundation as the citizens of tomorrow. As we each go on our way, the class of '53' says to you, Willshire High, 'THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
