We had as our teacher Mrs. Leistner, who worked with us until we were on our way to higher education. When we returned to school the next year, we had for our teacher, Miss Brookhart. From then on it was Miss Weinman as our third grade teacher, Mrs. Bain as our fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Bowen as our fifth grade teacher and Mr. Sipe and Mr. Lucas as our seventh and eighth grade teachers respectively. Being an eighth grader, that meant that we would all have the eighth grade test to look forward to and how we all dreaded that dayl But to our amazement it was not so defying at all. The summer passed and we returned as Greenies', with Mrs. Vining as Our sponsor. Completely ignorant of high school life, we lost our way to classes, and turned up at the right place at the wrong time. After a few weeks, however, everyone had recovered sufficiently, only to face 'Freshmen lnitiation.' This was a sad day, indeed, with all the becoming make-up smeared on our faces. The girls wore men's underwear backwards and bib overalls inside out, and backwards with many peculiar accessories The boys paraded around in short dresses made from gunny sacks with their slips hanging out. We were all generously treated to onions when we misbehaved. The first period after dinner the seniors took us up town and treated us to ice cream bars, which tasted very good after all the onions. This was a day that we will always remember as long as we live. All this accomplished, we were happy to turn over the iob of being Freshmen to the oncoming 'Greenies' while we journeyed on as Sophomores with little knowledge of how busy we would be. Our sponsor for this year was Mr. Manken, who ably assisted us in our activities. When we returned as Juniors, we were lucky to have Mr. Games as our sponsor, who worked untiringly with LS in proiects we undertook. At last, Seniors! As upperclassmen we were then busier than all other years put to- gether. The work was enjoyed, though, when we knew it would be our last. Finally we reached our goal ------ Commencement. Four wonderful years of fun and hard work are now gone forever, but we take with us, a knowledge of life which has laid for us a foundation as the citizens of tomorrow. As we each go on our way, the class of '53' says to you, Willshire High, 'THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES Class Will WE, the Senior Class of l953, being of sound minds and bodies, but of poormemories, do make, ordain, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament. Senior Prophecy A Visit To Willshir One day in the year of l969, I decided to come back to good old Willshire to find out how things were going. It seems that Willshire has become a large city and rates third largest in the United States. As I entered the business district, I was surprised when I saw the famous 'McClain Brewery' owned by the prosperous Jim McClain, who is still a bachelor. The Brewery's head man is Lester Strickler who drinks up half the profit. Lester, by the way, married Sandra Hoblet who is now the Superintendent of Nurses in the new General Hospital. The Hospital has two very competent nurses. They are Marlene Harmon, who is in charge of the Maternity Ward, and Sandra Hey, who is a surgical nurse. There are two other new establishments in Willshire. One is the newspaper, The Willshire Babble edited by Kay Slusser, and the other is the all-modern school. One of the school's best teachers is Eileen Black. Farther on down main Street there were horns blowing and the traffic had to stop. All I could see at first was a tassel of red hair, then I noticed it was a farmer from way-back my old pal, Tom Baker, bringing in a load of corn to the Price Elevator. Gene also owns one of the largest estates in Will- shire. Farther on we came to one of the egg hatcheries owned by Jack Balyes. As I turned down Nightly Avenue, I saw the Swank 25 Club, which is owned by James Habeggar, his chef bouncer happens to be the tough Arley Buckmaster. It seems that James has the world- famous Marlene Trisel, who is known in private life as Mrs. Dave Ripley, booked for a week stand in his club. Marlene does a song and dance routine. Joan Kuhlberg is the cigarette girl. Hmmm, cute, tool Joanie, I hear pulls in a cool 52,000 nightly from the tips given hereby oil millionaires. Larry Marbaugh is James' top-notch crooner. Larry lives with his new bride in a penthouse in the Schaffner Hotel. The hotel, as I later saw, was 32 stories Hgh and is owned by Paul Schaffner, who has a chain of hotels. Conveniently located a few blocks away from the hotel is the Church of God. The minister is the Rev. Don DeBoIt. Don has a congregation ot an average of 3,000 every Sunday. Further down Nightly Avenue we see the new Broadway Star Theater. The owners are Anna Lou Miller and Carol Kuhn. The two girls are quite a success. As the day is nearing an end I decided to fill up the gas tank before leaving. I drive to ci filling station and who do I see but Mary Weddle, who runs the station. l asked Mary if she knew what happened to the last two of the Seniors of I953. She said that Virgie Thatcher is married and on a large ranch in Arizona and that Yvonne Voltz, who is married to a sailor husband, is traveling abroad. Oh! By the way, Mr. Games, the sponsor of the Senior Class was elected President in the last election on the Republican Ticket. 1 -ie 1 ng ,V P ,1 x 'w . At the teachers assignments we sometimes did grumble, after day o'ver our lessons did stumble. d t ke it with iust a slight frown, And day But we learne to a O troubles oh yes, and our ups and downs. ur , Just now as we are ready to depart from good old W.
