We are very proud to have had such a capable and amiable sponsor Class History of 1951 Thirty-five frightened, but eager pupils entered Willshire Public School on September ll, 1939 to begin learning readin', writin', and 'rithmetic. Miss Beatrice Neiferd was on hand to greet us in our first experiences in school. Miss Edna Eichar was our teacher during our second and third grades, and with her help we soon became fourth graders with Mrs. Esther Dellinger as teacher. We didn't find this grade too difficult, so our next step up the ladder was the fifth grade with Mrs. Edith Bowen. During our sixth grade we had Mrs. Mildred Fisher and Mr. Sipe for the seventh. The eighth grade and we find ourselves the lucky students of a new teacher in our school. His name was Mr. Robert Lucas. This year went fast and we find graduation night here. We all felt proud as we got our diplomas that made us a part of the good old high school when we started our next term. Greenies, at last! and already the Seniors were planning what to do to us when initiation day came. Everyone had to admit that all the boys made very beautiful pin up girls in their shorts and halters, high heeled shoes and carry- ing a baby doll. The girls didn't look quite as pretty in flannel nightgowns, hair in rags, and a black eye , but the Seniors made all this up that night with a nice. party with the class as honored guests. During our Freshman year we had Miss Blankman for our class sponsor. Mrs. Byers was our sponsor during our Sophomore year. We had a pan- cake supper, and a bake sale. Our Sophomore year went fast and we are now Juniors. This was one of our best years. We picked our class rings this year. Our class play. Good- bye Hollywood, bake sale, selling pencils with basketball schedules, and con- cessions at the Junior High Basketball Tournament, contributed to build our treasury. Our Junior-Senior Reception was held in the Auditorium, May 13. All the class enjoyed fixing the gyrn with crepe paper in the Seniors class colors Everyone also agreed that the gym, looked very nice, and that they had a wonder- ful tirne. 'We had Mr. Cowan as our able sponsor this year. This was it! At last we became Seniors. Our first day at school, we re- ceived our class rings, which everyone liked very well. This year the tables were turned and we were deciding the Freshmen's fate for initiation day. We believe we had more fun than the Freshmen. Mr. Cowan was our sponsor again this year. We decided to go to Washington, D. C. for our trip. We want to thank Mr. Cowan for the wonderful help he has given us to make our Senior year, one we won't forget for a long time to come. 19 PHYLLIS KESSLER -5 N A PAT BLACK V 3 QQ Q.: jg .f -3.-21. 5 u . sl Q u S 4 I f- J Q: V Q -- KEITH ROSS .mug FRED SCHUMN Q ,. On this September day in 1965, I was walking along at the fair and I saw a sign telling about Pat Minx, UThe World Famed Fortune- Teller. I decided to go in and see her since we used to be school churns. I asked her if she knew where some of her classmates were and she told me to sit down and she would tell me. The first Senior of 1951 I was told about was Rose Weinman. She is now married and living on a farm and has many little 5'Caffee's to take care of. I was now told about the Fisher Fishery. Jim's business is raising suckers of his own breed and they are said to be of finest stock. She tells me that Bob Shoup and Harold Griffith now have a famous Roller Skating Team. I guess they really Hbump off their opponents. I was surpris- ed to hear about the stadium, built by the famous architect, Keith Ross. They call it The House that Ross Built. She now tells me that Paul Fetters owns a large snake farm and that Phyllis Gunsett is nursing the little snakes along to the best of health. I was told that Martha Painter is now a coach and her manager is Pat Miller. Martha's team has never been defeated. I asked her next about Fred and Elmer Schumn. She said they are now detectives in a thriving business. They have Ed Debolt employed whose job is to bolt and unbo1t the well filled vault. They make a killing every once in awhile. What surprised me most of all was when I was told that Patty Black is now a famous referee for 't'professiona1 basketball games. She has six boys of her own and they have a basketball team, she does most of her refereeing for them. I was surprised again to hear that Floyd Weddle is now president of Van Wert County Fair board. I was getting hungry, so we walked down the midway and stopped at a lunch stand. I recognized the owners as Trolus Frank and Esther Midlam. They call their place Frank and Mid-Long's Hot Dog Stand. As we finished our lunch, we walked on and I noticed a policeman directing traffic. I thought I had seen him before, and I had, for it was Robert Fonner. We asked him about William Baker, because Patty Minx wasn't sure as to what he was doing. He told us that William has a bakery, called the We-Will Bake Shop. Next, I was told that Phyllis Kessler is a famous beautician. She fixes the movie stars' hair and is getting along fine. I asked about Bertha Grunden and was told she has a Kindergarten School in the suburbs of Pleasant Mills, Indiana. She also told me that Gene Painter is now on stage in Hollywood replacing A1 Jolson. ZZ It is getting about time for the night show in the grand stand, and I didn't want to miss, so we started for the show. The performance for the evening was by the Great Trapeze Artist, Wanda Edwards. Performing with her the World Famous Tight Rope Walker, Beverly Clouse. I enjoyed the show and was starting for home. I hailed a taxi, and was lucky to get one, I recognized the driver as none other than Kenny Miller. I was glad to see him and told him that I had been told all about his classmates, the Seniors of '51. Also, I told him I had seen most of them while at the fair. Kenny asked me if I had heard the latest news about some guy in Chile Corner, New York, who bet millions on the election this year. Come to find out it was Mr. Robert Cowan, the sponsor of the class of '51. To top it off he bet that the Democrats would win in both the House and Senate.
