Senior History In the year 1938, twenty-five glowing, yet bashful first graders start- ed on their road to education. Everything looked so strange, but the strangest part of it all was the fact that our small vocabulary which we had strived so hard to learn was NOT to be used during school time. But with the patient help of Miss Nieferd we were taught, and tried very hard to learn our a,b,c's, numbers etc., which then made us eligible for the second grade where we were earnestly taught by Miss Eicher. There our main tasks were reading, writing and arithmetic. With the second grade duties accomplished we dashed into the third grade where we were greet- ed by Miss Dudgeon, our teacher for the following year, which was spent struggling with our multiplication tables. We then happily marched into the fourth grade where we took up several new subjects under the super- vision of Mr. Sipe and Mr. Edwards. In the fifth grade we were privilaged to again have Miss Eicher as our teacher. The sixth grade was spent with Mr. Sipe and Mr. Edwards as our teachers. In the following two years Mrs. Fisher and Mr. Sipe gave us our much needed knowledge to enter high school. Confidentially, after we mastered algebra we felt quite advanced in education. We were all beaming with pride the night we got our eighth grade diplomas, that is till we stumbled up and down the steps and made several other em- barrassing blunders. lt was then we realized that there was room for more knowledge, which we strived to get in our next four years of schooling. , Next we were introduced to everyone as the Green Freshman, and just between you and me, we really felt green, especially when the Seniors of 1947 set a day aside just for us. Weren't we all a sight'?3 the girls with their bib overalls on wrong side out and backwards and the boys came attired in their A'nighties 2 But after that treacherous day, we were once again back to studying. In our Sophomore year we sold candy at noon to expand our treasury. We were kept extremly busy in our Junior year---First we had the play Three's A Crowd . We learned then the enjoyment and fright of giving a play. We were kept busy the rest of the year selling pins, pencils, and a paper drive. We also took a three day trip to some of the historical spots in Ohio. It proved to be both enjoyable and edifcational. Most of all we were kept busy with our lessons for we all know that the higher you go the harder it gets. AhI I Seniors at last , were the words with which began the year. As the year crept by we realized that we would soon be saying good-by for the last time to our good old Alma Mater, Which isn't so bad after all . We're all looking forward to our trip to Washington, D. C. at the close of our school year. There are three boys and five girls who have attended all twelve years at Willshire. They are Donald Caffee, Gerald Hoblet, Gene Beinz, Peggy Clouse, Susie Cowan, Clara Rose Gribler, Martha Schaffner and Bonnie Brasher. We all consider ourselves very fortunate in being able to have Mr. Games as our sponsor all four years. We earnestly want to thank hi.m for all he has done for us, for he has spent many strenuous hours with us. 10
