HFASCINATING RHYTHM The TrumpeTs call and The brass horns roar, The clarineTs play and The TluTes Ier ouT Their Treble Trill! Yes, This is The Willows band warming up. Our band is widely known as an ouTsTanding one in The Valley. Many people sTand on sTreeT corners during parades sTraining To see The Tlashy purple and gold uniTorms ThaT adorn The players. who march wiTh precision and co-operaTe perTecTly. Unlike many oTher bands, They pay sTricT aTTenTion To Their conducTor during rehearsals and never behave in a disorderly manner. No doubT This build-up has seemed raTher exaggeraTed To you. Well, iT really isn'T all True, as you know, buT The kids are really a swell bunch, who love and admire Their leader. They have played aT every TooTball game during The halT-Time and Time-ouT, and proved wonderTul enTerTainmenT Tor The specTaTors. During baskeTball season They ac- companied The Team and rooTers To The games. AT The Willows-Anderson game here The pep band, wiTh Iigh+s on Their TeeT and lighTed haTs, played and drilled in a dark- ened gymnasium. The perTormance was specTacular and The crowd showed Their ap- proval by Tremendous applause. On March I and 2 some oT The members aTTended The band clinic aT Redding, where They did sighT reading and played in a massed band. Those Taking parT said iT was very inTeresTing. Also during March The band gave iTs annual spring concerT. This gave Them pracTice Tor The TesTival They were To aTTend laTer. So one morning in May The band meT aT a very unreasonable hour aT The band room To go To Berkeley To The annual Band FesTival, where They played chosen pieces in compeTiTion wiTh many oTher bands and where They received a high raTing on Their perTormance.
