Early one morning in lhe Iale lall ol I94I an overloaded eleclric cable slarled a lire in lhe allic ol lhe norlhwesl corner room. Il wasn'l long belore all lhal remained ol our house ol educalion was ashes and a lew broken walls. Thal was, ol course, during lhe war, and our school board was unable lo secure a priorily and lhe necessary building malerial lor a new school. Bul lhe G.C.I'I.S. sludenls musl be educaled! So lhe school board arranged lo buy a nearby bloclc ol old houses, and classes were sel up lhere. For eighl long years lhe sludenls ol 6.C.l-l.S. lrudged lrom collage lo collage-lhrough rain and mud and wind in winler, and in lhe summer lhe collages were verilable ovens. Then in I946 aller years ol planning and plan-changing, our school board voled lo build lhe new school we are now enioying. Bids were opened and conslruclion began on Oclober I I, l948. We sludenls walched eagerly as lhe building grew and were so lhrilled when lhis year we could slarl school in such a beaulilul new building. The building was approved by slale ollicials on December I2, I949, and salislies all slale regulalions. Il is lhe besl in modern school slruclures. So, you see, al Iasl, lhanlcs lo our school board and our principal, we have whal we consider a perlecl school. We are proud lo be sludenls ol 6.C.l-l.S.
