The 1971 varsity tennis team will be led by Seniors Tom Lee and Russ Svetic, two returning lettermen, followed by Ken Brinker, Mike jezioro, john Heck, Gary Lichtenheld, Doy Deans, Mike Holland, Bill Shimanek, jim Walkinshaw, and Mark Fisher. In spite of difficult weather conditions, this team has worked hard and is looking forward to a 14- match schedule capped off by the I.H.S.A. District -r and State meets, and our own Des Plaines Valley li, League championship meets. They are Ron Bailey, Ron Dowiarz, Tom Hicks, Randy Mucha, and Mike Rowland. juniors Dan Schatzeder and Ray Severino and Sophomore Larry Lucchesi will add defense and hitting. The varsity plans to go far in search of the State championship after finishing second in the summer high-school league. Willowbrook varsity should overcome strong Glenbard East and Downers South teams to regain the D.P.V.L. title that escaped them last year. l 28

The varsity track team carried on in the fine tradition of Willowbrook trackmen. The indoor team placed second in the Morton West Invitational, second in the West Suburbs Invita- tional, third in the Conference, first in a meet with Provisio West and Glenbard East, first in the Naperville Relays, and fourth in the Oak Park Relays. After this excellent indoor season, the team is ready to do equally well in the outdoor events. Mainstays of the team are Pete Stauch, john Hudicek, Mike Sarallo, Darryl Swatscheno, and Dave Tucker in the sprints, Dave Smith, john Engel, Kurt Kuntz, Bob Coppoth, and Mark Chandler in the 440, Marshall Vick inthe hurdles, jim Martin, Norm Rostocki, Chris Gorski, Mike Considine, john Considine, Glenn Biccichi, and Mark Towle in the distances, jeff Cowdery, Scott Sanneman, and Bob joorfetz in the high jump, Bill Priesel, Butch Nobayashi, and jon Harrington in the pole vault, and Dale Sydnor, Larry Damhorst, Larry Trunek, and Chuck Luttenbacher in the shot and discus.
