JUNIOR-VARSITY BASKETBALL SQUAD: FRONT ROW: Manager Mike Howe, Manager Andy Kaczmarek, John Hudecek, Dan Schatzeder, Dan Davis, Terry Torrence, and Ray Severinog SECOND ROW: Manager Greg Weber,'Don Tauchen, Steve Kolwitz, Tom Vann, John Heck, Mike Howard, and Ken Owens, BACK ROW: Coach Clint Evans, Keith Mansk, Bill Constien, Mike Rowland, Ray Selcke, Gary Galvin, Mark Chandler, and Janis Ludeks. VARSITY TAKES CONFERENCE AND REGIONAL TITLES This season was the best season for a Varsity bas- ketball team in the school's ten-year history. lt was also the first D.P.V.L. championship in basketball. On the way to our Regional championship, our biggest wins were over Proviso East, York, East Leyden Cwho was rated number one in the D.P.V.L.D, and Glenbard East three times. Unfortunately, the season did not go unblemished. Two of only three losses, however, were at the hands of Lyons, the number one ranked team in the state. The first of the two came during the Proviso West Christmas tourney, in which we took third place. The second was during the l.H.S.A. Sectional at Hins- dale Central. Ours was the best defensive team in the area, allowing our opponents only 50.7 points per game. Among other team strengths were team balance and physical strength. George Thoreson, was the team's most valuable player and captain. He led the team in rebounds with 258 for the season, breaking a school record. His re- bounds in a single game also broke the school record. ln his three years at Willowbrook, he started 74 con- secutive games. Other team standouts were Ron Dowiarz, leading playmaker and second leading scorer, Tom Hicks, top defensive player in the area, who can also scoreg Tim Williams, whose great rebounding and scoring were invaluable, Tom Mann, an agile guard whose specialty is stealing the ballglWally Streid,another guard who is a great outside shooter: and Scott Sanneman and Ken Carwell, the team's top reserve players. Congratula- tions to a fine team who might not have succeeded without the fine coaching of Marshall Stoner. J.V. AND FROSH TAKE CONFERENCE The 1969-70 Junior Varsity basketball team became cham- pions ofthe Des Plaines Valley through a tremendous amount of hard work along with remarkable individual improvement. The season began with two opening losses: however, the ball club began to jell afterthese two losses and went on to post a record of 17 wins and 4 losses. The team won the J.V. championship with a record of 13 wins and 1 loss. A most satisfying year was highlighted by wins over York, twice over Glenbard East, and important wins over Downers Grove South and Addison Trail. Coach Clint Evans felt that fine individual performances were turned in by Gary Galvin, Dan Davis, Janis Ludeks,Ray Selecke,and Don Tauchen. Congratula- tions, champs! The Freshman basketball team also clinched first place in the Conference with a 10-1 record. They were 14-2 for the season. The captain was Steve Mruk and the most valuable player was Larry Lucchesi.
