NOT PICTURED: Steve Stein. So Close, but Yet So Far! The 1968 football season was one of disappointment for the players as well as the coaches. The season began on a high note with a victory over traditional rival York, 13-7. The Warriors second opponents, West Leyden, also fell before them, 27-19. The Warriors, however, met their match in Glenbard East. In this game nine key players were injured, and we dropped the game, 31-14. From this game until the end of the season, the Warriors were plagued with bad luck and injuries. Even so, the players played good football with a season record of 3-4-1 and fifth place. However, only sixteen points separated the team from a Conference championship and a 7-1 record. Coaches Evans and Owen summed up the season by saying, So close, but yet so far! The team's co-captains were Larry Shissler and Dennis Sugino, Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player were Jim Ryan and Joe Marzano, respectively. The outlook is good for the junior varsity to regain the DPVL championship for Willowbrook next year. The team took second place in Conference with a record of 6-1, being beaten only by undefeated Glenbard East. At the end of the season, the players elected their co-captains, Wally Streid and Jim Brooks. Nlost Valuable Player went to John Redden, and Most Improved Player was Bill Warren. JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL SQUAD: FRONT ROW: Bob Anderson, Jim Brooks, John Redden, Tom Fogerty, Bob Grant, Bill Tews, Ken Carpenter, Doug Bidle, Tony Venezia, and Mike Sullivan. SECOND ROVM Manager Barry Burmeister, Manager Bob Wrozek, Chuck Lindley, Tom Mann, Tim Burgess, Bill Warren, Glenn Fencl, John Hillan, Ron Dowiarz, Gary Kasper, Chuck Luttenbacher, Rich Vuillaume, Manager Warren Diegel, and Manager Mike Moreau. THIRD ROMA Coach Jordan, Manager Terry Warner, Manager George Thorpe, Wally Streid, Tim Keller, Mike Arpin, Dave Westrom, Karl Griesbaum, Steve Dudasik, Dave Roberts, Dan Prevendar, Karlis Ludeks, Gary Letiz, Trainer Paul Peterson, and Coach Loew. , 7, 4 W Vf, - 1 gf, , ,gs sa., -.,. .see , r i i ' f f 1 7' ' ' 'E' 'f ' 'tiff ff AJ V . 2 c 1- 1 'iff' ' , -Qi I - A f . . - 4 ,-: - A K :f ' , K '89 S, -v 5' f . Three-Year Victory Streak Our Varsity cross country team came through again, for the third year in a row, as Conference champs, undefeated in Conference dual meets. Running our team tovictory were our eight top men: Russ Burr, Tom Jacobson, Alan Trunek, Rick Santvilli, Paul Riedel, Glenn Bicicchi, Jerry Kimbrell, and Jim Martin, all of whom are underclassmen returning next year. Hard team work with the help of Coach Tyree made our team successful in winning third place in District meets and fourth place in the County meet. Our sophomore team looks very promising for next year. They won first in the Conference for the second year in a row. This team is said to be one of the best in the state. Keep up the good work!
