Coach Carter, recognized as one of the better coaches in the area, tried various strategies to produce a winning combination, but repeated illness and injury hampered the outcome, However, the year did have some major highlights, the biggest being the capture of the Rockford Classic third- place trophy. The Warriors defeated Rockford Guilford 83-59, Peoria Manual 72-69, and Antioch 70-61, lliliftlo and lost to tournament winner Dixon by two points in overtime. Gary Matthews, 6,0', junior guard, was named to the all-tournament team. Another highlight was the last four regular season victories over Hinsdale South, Downers Grove South, Wheaton Central, and West Leyden. Rick Leonhardt and Gary Matthews were named to the all-Des Plaines Valley squad, while Ron Batzer, leading scorer and rebounder, was given honorable mention. Ron was also elected M.V.P., while Denner Gage was elected captain, and Ron Cottone and Greg Kobierski were elected umost improved. ,I Kelli D il? ' '
