They captured a tie for third place in the Des Plaines Valley conference, posting a 3-3 conference standing and a 3-3-1 over-all standing. Coached by Mr. Loew and Mr. Leonardi, the team tied its Hrst game with the previously undefeated York sopho- more team, 6-6. The Sophomore Warriors won their first conference game by shutting out East Leyden 13-0. Then after losing their game to Hinsdale South 18-6, they bounced back to win their homecoming game 18-0. Fall- ing into a slump, they lost their next two games to Glen- bard East 13-6 and Morton West 46-12. Snapping back from their two defeats, they ended the season by smashing Downers Grove South 41 -6. Bob Cortesi, playing quarterback, and Dennis Sugino, playing guard and linebacker, were elected co-captains for the year. The Most Valuable Player, Dennis Sugino shows promising prospect as a Varsity player next year. The backbone of the Sophomore offense consisted of Rick Siegfried, Phil Lindhorn, and Rick Gourley. The number one rusher and most improved player was Randy Foster. The number one pass receiver, who caught five touchdown passes, was jim Mahr. The key defensive men were Tom Baker, Glenn Syver- son, and Dave Harrington. Bill Malone headed the list of tackles with 35. In all but one of the games the Warriors scored first and outplayed their opponents in all but total yards passing, where we gained 255 yards to their 435 yards. In total yards rushing the Warriors scrambled for 957 yards to the opposing teams 684 yards which brought our total yards to 1,212 to their 1,120. They also outscored their opponents 96 to 83.
