NEW HANOVER COUNTY Greetings to the Class of 1956. You will be the largest number of students to graduate at Williston Senior High School in the history of the school. Williston Academy opened its doors for the first time in October, 1873. It is the oldest public school, that has retained the same name, in New Hanover County. There are very few schools in the State that can go back over so long a history under the same name. I am sure we can depend upon each of you to continue to add to the great service this school has rendered to the County, State and Nation. H. M. Roland Superintendent of Schools Mr. H. M. ROLAND, Superintendent Mr. J. W. GRISE, Ass ' t. Supt. I should like to extend to you, the Graduating Class of 1956, my sincere congratulations. During the past twelve years of your life the schools of New Hanover County have given you an opportunity to obtain a thorough education. If you have availed yourselves of this opportunity to the best of your ability, you are now prepared for further study in college or to take your place as useful citizens in our com¬ munity. You are graduating in an age of uncertainty, of change, of progress, and many other unforseen problems. Upon each of you will fall the obligation and duty of meeting and helping to solve these problems in our county, state and nation. In the years ahead my hope is that you will conduct yourselves in such a way as will make Williston Senior High proud of you and that the county and state may be assured that they made a wise investment in your education. J. W. Grise Assistant Superintendent
