GIRLS STATE X3-an During June 1955 six girls from Williston High School spent a wonderful week at Girls State Girls State was held on the Uni versity campus at Grand Forks North Dakota and vias under the direction of Mrs John Engesather Registration getting acquainted with their advisors and new during the first day After they Wert organized Gladys Stannard found herself rep resenting the city of Blu Mington Roberta Wilkinson Ninny Voo Karan Stevens Phfftville Kay Skavanger Pinkleboro Rita Kay Abel Dusty Ribosc and Helen Greutman Davis Crockettes During the week the girls had an opportunity to function as a legislative body and through this process they received a better understanding of how Government of the state is run Elections were held and officnrs vtere elected for both the Federalist and Nationalist parties Some of the highlights of the week included the Candle Lighting Ceremony and thc Governor s Reception OnSaturday night every one got into the mood of Fun Night and the Staters put on the Fl1CkLft11lRLVlCXK Graduation found all tht girls dressed in forrnals and on this occasion the girls received their Girls State pins This final event was the climax of a wonderful week together 86 ,L A Vg' 114, '-1 J ' ,, X f r l ' K f 1 M :N f , ,v l , as ' -'N' :fs 4 vN 'Y vu- I I ' ' 3 i 7 friends,and being assigned to their cities kept the girls very busy . 2 ' , ., 1 - 3 Y i f : i l 1 1 i Z y TS , A - . . , . . 0 B ' , v 7 ' ' - U I C ' x ' yu V I 7
