S 600010 : 0 In September, 1950, we began the first part of our journey through high school, 155 strong. On September 15 at our first class meeting, we elected Teddy Jo Paulson as our leader and Alan Olson assistant. We chose Vira Erickson to take the notes, Carol Rosenvold to keep track of the money, and Bill Maloney to keep order. We gave our Freshman Frolic on March 9. In September, 1951, we began the second part of our travel, stationed in Study Hall with Miss Moe as conductor. This year Eddie Horab was our chief engineer with Vernon Bloom as as sis- tant. Willie Rossland was in charge of financial affairs and Bar- bara Bosh kept the timetable of our doings. In November we held the Sophomore Stag under the supervision of Miss Moe. In September, 1952, we climbed aboard for our third time headed by Willie Rossland with the aid of Nyla Rae Anseth. This year our treasurer was Jack Heller, Tommy Stahl was secretary and Gary Johnson was our sergeant-at-arms. On September 8, 1953, we stepped on board for the last lap of our journey. Willie Rossland took his second term as head opera- tor with the assistance of Carole Moody. Caryl Westdal kept the minutes, Jack Heller juggled the coins, and Eddie Horab kept us in order. 14 NYLA RAE ANSETH Ny1a High marks don't off- set her at all. See how pleasant she seems. At- tending this year were Luella Davies, Ann Bar- bara DeGree, Peggy Kellar, and Carole Moody. We registered and met our city counselors on Friday, our first day. Saturday we started studying our city func- tions. On Sunday each girl attended the church of her choice. In the evening all the girls par- ticipated in the unforgettable candle-lighting ceremony. On Monday we finished city government, and started studying county functions. In the evening a mock trial was performed by members of Girls State. On Tuesday, state government was empha- sized. At the end of this day of hard work, we had Fun Night which truly lived up to its name. State elections were held on Wednesday. That evening all state officers were inaugurated. Thursday was our big day,we graduated from Girls State and received our pins and diplomas. We started our trip home on Friday. Girls State will remain in our memories for many years to come. Zaye State We left Williston on Sunday, June 21, 1953, at 8:30 A.M. and arrived in Fargo about 4:30 that afternoon. We were taken to the A. C. campus where Boys State was held. Carl Anderson, Robert Crook, Peter Gauthier , Dwayne Head, Lawrence Kemper, Allen Larvick, Keith Soiseth, Tom Stannard, Jim Webb and Ro- bert Woodhams attended from Williston this year. That night we met our counselors and were assigned to our rooms and political parties. On Monday we got acquainted with our new friends and guiding counselors. Tuesday we had city and county conventions to decide on members of the senate, house, and all state officers. The legislature met on Wednesday afternoon after the election of officers. On Thursday the legislature met again and plans were started for the Governors Ball. On Friday the le g i s la tu r e was officially closed. The next night a huge crowd atte nd e d the Governor's Ball. The occasion marked a. happy, yet sad, ending to this session of Boys State. 77 x 4? L - 5 R . Y -N Vs ! .X A A 1 . 1 Q ' K' W X I ,.
