19850 WINNING WILDKAT BASEBALL TEAM Top: C. Kuhl, F. Nixon, T. Golden, I. Hollins, D. Freeman, T. Mileski, D. Mann, F. Whitesides, and M. Trevino. Bottom: R. Vela, D. Poff, P. Mosser, F. Lawrence, F. Richardson, C. Bender and W. Schuvert. I The Willis Wildkat Baseball Team made it to the state playoffs in 1985. The year began with some big shoes to fill. Gone was Shannon Felder, gone was Gary Pokey Dickerson, Dan Whitesides and john Sonsel. A lot of questions were asked! Who will play here? Who will pitch? These questions were answered quickly by Freeman's Kiddie Corps. Freshmen jesse Hollins and Freddie Nixon took over the pitching chores while the infield of Philip Mosser, Fred Whitesides, Frank Richardson and Thomas Mileski closed the gaps around the baseball diamond. In the outfield Chris Kuhl, Demmis Poff and Michael Trevino caught fly ball after fly ball. The Wildkats won the Cleveland Tourna- ment and posted a ten-four Predistrict Record. The District race was a four team race. The Wildkats of Willis and the Wildcats of Splendora ended the District race with identicaI'eight-two records. The tie caus- ed a playoff which resulted in a Willis Wildkat victory. The Bulldogs of Hitchcock were chewed up by the Kats during the first round of the playoffs with a nine-one score. The Kats' second op- ponent was the Bellville Bramas at Olsen Field on the A8fM campus. The Kats led the first four endings with a score of two-zero. Bellville stayed a five run comeback to beat the Kats with a five-two score. The Willis Wildkat Baseball Team had a great season and we are proud of each and every one of them. l 128
