Few students realize what our local school board members go through in order to hire the excellent teachers which we now have, or the many hours spent late at night balancing our school budget, and the solving of other school problems. They offer to all of us a place in which to learn if we do so want. Seated left to right in the above photo are John McFadden, Harold Johnstone, Dorothy Burrus, Secretary, Floyd Leathers, President Helen Logan, Henry Ackerman, Henry I-lenrickson. 1 It is our hope to be able to offer to every child who is part of our school system every advantage that will help him to develop into a useful citizen. Each child shall be treated as an individual and given as much as he can ab- sorb of the work in which he is interested. It is our aim to send children from our system equipped with a usable knowledge of the fundamental tools of learning that he may be better prepared to succeed in his vocation. To succeed in our aim is a twelve year job for each boy and girl. It is a job which depends upon the cooperative effort of every person in the school district from school patrons through board members and teachers to the pupils themselves, With the patience and cooperation of everyone we will strive to reach our goal. James E. MacGregor A IDGSSAGG I:l20m OUI2 UDGIZIYIIGU 06011 qnaouates one to the The culmination of each school year is a terminal point in the lives of all students, but it is probably the most important period in the lives of one group-our graduating seniors. Commencement from our secondary school system marks that time in your lives when you must, with a certain degree of freedom, choose the road you will travel in future years. For some of you this road will lead to advanced training in an institution of higher learningg for others it will lead immediately to some vocation or position in our democratic society. Whatever the choice, you are entering an increasingly complicated world which places a premium on education. The administration and faculty of Williamsville High School, cognizant of the challenges which now face our young people, sincerely hope that we have provided you with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to success- fully meet these challenges. DIOR class OIIIZICGQS We, the Senior Class of 1955 entered Williamsville High School as Green Freshmen in 1951. The big event of the year was Freshman Initiation. We thought we were picked on, but we really had more fun than the Sophomores. ln 1952 we started another year as Sophomores at W.H.S. We lost four students during the year. At the beginning of the year we gained Wanda Wright, and towards the end of the year we took another member in. This was Dorotha Buckner. This left us a grand total of 28. We lost six at the beginning of our Junior year. We sponsored the Junior-Senior Prom at the Leland Hotel. It was a big success and a good time was had by all. Here we are in our last year at good old W.l-l.S. That long awaited day will be here, when we will graduate. At the beginning of the year we gained Ralph Fields. This has proved to be a very busy year as we have sponsored the annual spaghetti and meatball supper, Senior Play, scrap drives, basketball and duckthrow at the carnival, and are looking forward to our Senior Trip. We were well represented on the basketball team. The first five on the varsity happened to be Seniors, and seven out of the first ten were also Seniors. We are a little sorry to be leaving dear old W.H. S. for we have had a lot of good times, as well as problems. K M li, wi'-in ,R f 1 3 Y ff , . ,. W ,vm ' 9 ggi, L ani. The class officers were Nancy Perugino, President, Doris Johnstone, Vice-Presi- dent, Virginia Flagg, Secretary and Treasurer. Qir first selection of Student Council members was Leroy Miller and August Casson. The highlights of our year as freshmen were fof Coursey the freshman initiation, and the Saint Patrick's Day Dance, which we sponsored. We were well represented in school activities that year. Our advisor was Mr. Kostos, who helped us a lot. The year of 1953 rolled around and the new Sophomore Class entered 21 strong. Our President was Doris Johnstoneg Vice-President, August Casson, Secretary, Carolyn Cowan, Treasurer, Virginia Flagg. The second set of Student Council members was Barbara Smith and Leroy Miller. Our advisor was Miss Weimers. The most outstanding activities of our year as Sophomores was the Freshman Initiation. We didn't hurt them too much. We had two booths at the F. H. A. Carnival, a skating party, the Gingham and Jean Dance, and an Ice Cream Social. Our Junior year is now upon us, with 22 students bearing the title ofJunior. The 1954 offioers are--President, Carolyn Cowang Vice-President, Bill Evans, Secretary, Don Dotyg Treasurer, August Casson. There was much cleaning and sorting to be done. Some is finished, more is to be done. We are progressing slowly but surely with the expert advice of our superintendent--Mr, MacGregor. Our fiction selection is in fair condition but we hope to add several novels to it. In the reference department we also need some new books but first - what we have needs to be straightened up. The librarians keep a good eye on the check-outs and usually warn those who have books that are almost due. We figure that what we mostly need now - is time and work and then we will have a real good library. WILLIAMSVILLE F.F.A. CHAPTER OFFICERS OFFICERS Jerry Dennison . . ....... Rhodes, D. Burrus, J. Elliot, B Thompson C Q. aa. G.A.A. is an abbreviation tor girls' athletic association. It is organized throughout the state of Illinois. Mrs. Mac Gregor, our physical education teacher is our sponsor, Mary Lou Long - Presidentp Delores Fitzpatrick - Vice-President: Nancy Perugino - Secretary and Treasurer, Janet Walters - Pro- gram Chairmang Jo Ann Williams - Point Chairman, We have 36 members. Each girl in our organization is working for points, that at the end of the year will give her an emblem of a letter. At the beginning of the School term the program committee met and planned ac- tivities for the school year which consisted of going skating, bowling, game night, swimming, hikes and other activities that would give us points. An informal initiation was held for our new members on November 2, 1954. There was a potluck supper for the G.A.A. members and game night was held afterwards and opened to the public. Our money-making projects consisted of having a game night and a night club at the G.A.A. Carnival. We have our regular meetings every third Wednesday of the month. STUDENTS COLlnCll During the last part of last year, the Student Council for this year was elected--they are from left to right on the front row--Harold Downs, Freshman, Verna Rhodes, Secretary-Treasurer, Sophomore, Roberta Meredith, President, Senior, Mr. MacGregor, Advisor, Janet Walters, Junior, Terry Henrickson, Freshman, Back row--Bob Smith, Senior, F red Willoughby, Sophomore, Roger Walsh, Junior, Bill Logan, Senior. These people are all new at this job. We have sponsored and directed several things this year. The following are some of these: A dance, the election of the ninth member who is Roberta Meredith and also our elected president, elec- tion of cheerleaders, and the acrobatic show. We sold ice cream regularly at both the high school and grade school. We also had quite a few other things such as--drawing names for Christmas, fire drills, assemblies, and a dance. We worked together quite well and settled matters and problems that came up quite easily. We usually got down to business and got our work done without too much wasted time. We of the Student Council hope that we satisfied your requirements and accomplished much for the school this year. f f Www, ,,, Z4 125 E . I 1 4 . We were a little undecided at first about the big step of entering the seventh grade, because it would be so different. But, to our satisfaction, we find that we like it very much. There were thirty-six in our class. We elected the following class officers.
