Macpherson, Mr. Tuzzolino, Mt. Schnirel, R. Diebold. Billies Trounce Tigers Again The 1957 varsity football team had an up-and-down season. Showing great defensive and offensive play, they opened the season by dumping Frontier. In the next two games the Billies beat Amherst for the third consecutive year, then conquered Hamburg. Plagued by many injuries and the virus, the Billies were badly hurt. In the XX'est Seneca game the Billies lost the services of star end George Mayer, tackle Ray Voss, and guard Todd Pitts. Next was the Sloan game when Par VC'yatt, Stan Brown, and Dick Benninger were hurt. But as true of all Billies teams they wouldnt give up. Against Orchard Park, seasons champions. our hampered team played one of its best games of the season. After battling the Quakers for three quarters, yard for yard, the crippled Billies were finally overtaken. However, our boys placed well on the All-Star teams. Steve Miles made All-Conference center while halfback Dick Benninger and fullback Stan Brown made the second team. Tom Osinski rounded out the All-Stars by being chosen guard on the Division I team. XX'ith the graduation of six back- field members and eight linemen. the Billies of 1958 look towards a good season if the breaks go their way. Williamsville ...... ....... 5 5 Frontier ....... Billikens Topple Amherst Long hard days of work and eager efforts in each game typified the junior varsity gridders of l957. The highlight of the season CLIITIC when this team. com- posed mainly of freshman boys. defeated Amherst I4-6. However midwa' throu h the season. the team , l was riddled by injuries and afterward encountered tougher going. This year's freshman football team under the coach- ing of Mr. Stearns had a very successful season. The team's only two efforts, both against Nichols, produced overwhelming victories. In these contests the spark plug was Robert Benninger, who electrified spectators with his broken-Held running.
