The paper does much to develop school spirit and a feeling of unity in the school. Both the Spirit and the Board have doubled in size this year, enabling the paper to have many improvements and new features. Notable were the f'Spirit's campaign to give the money usually spent on Prom eorsages to a worthy charity, and Mr. Magliozzi's very interesting letters on Army life, Tl-l E DEBATING CLUB The Debating Club is made up of those students who are interested in doing outside work in developing their abilities in speaking and reasoning by discussing in a logical way the current problems of the day. Since formal debates with decisions by judges have been done away with, as far as interscholastic contests are concerned, the Club entertained the members of the Lee Debating Club in a panel discussion before the assembly on the subject YN'hat the High School Youth Can Do to Help the XVar Effort. The loss of the All-Berkshire shortstop. Ray Nlason. who is going to prep school. was a hard blow. Pete Stephenson was lost because ofthe age rule and as the season started Captain Bob Diodati was taken because of an operation. W'ith two veterans and only one senior, Coach Ted Sylvester had to hnd and build up an entirely new squad. The greenness ofthe team may be shown by the six freshmen. four sophomores and two juniors. Our best game was put up against Dalton, where due to too many errors the game was lost. As the season rolls on we hope and undoubtedly shall see our ball club come out with a few surprise wins. CHEERLEADERS Senior and junior cheerleaders lead the crowd in eheering and encouraging the team this year. The girls were dressed in red and white uniforms and did some fine cheering both at home and away. There was no head cheerleader but at each game a different girl was ehoscn to aet as head. 1 S.
