Keith Land, Rob Schoenfelder, Rich Hingston, Frank Fucetola Kneeling: Head coach Dennis DiOrio This football season was an outstanding one in many ways Our record was 7 2 which was the best record in 16 years It started with a thrilling 7 0 win over Clearview open ing day Then it continued by beating West Deptford 13 0 Highland 6 0 and Gloucester Catholic 14 0 After the four Situtouts in a row the defense obtained the nickname The Zero Hero s They truly were and at this point were one out of two teams unscored upon in South Jersey The next game brought Buena who gave the Braves their tirst defeat by a score of 22 12 However our guys bounced right back and defeated arch rival Glassboro 14 13 for the Lions Club Trophy and ended Glassboros 13 year streak over Williamstown This was by far one of the most intense and exciting games of the season After Glassboro painted the school wall the Braves put a little paint on themselves WARPAINT' The Glassboro game set up a championship game with Eastern who defeated the team 34 0 to take the Olympic Conference Crown As usual the Braves pride brought them back with two wins in a row Gateway was defeated 17 3 and Edgewood in a thrilling Turkey Day contest 15 12 The season brought many exciting moments and many Chief DiOrio Puts Braves 2 ss., 9 AfA 1- 78. .1 1 h awards: Derek Frazier was named first team all South Jersey, being the first WHS player to receive this honor The Braves had seven players named to the All Conference first team Defense Derek Frazier tackle Ed Cole end Ed Fuller LB and Bud Craig safety Offense Joe Mancini halfback George Buriak tackle and Jim Stellaccio guard Along with these honors several Braves were listed on the All Conference team and the All Group I1 stars A few of the exciting moments were our first win George Burial: s two interception s and TD against West Deptford Bud Craigs 55 yard TD pass to Jack Jacobs tH1ghlandJ Derek Frazier s safety and Ed Cole s interception tGloucester Catholicj Ed Endres two TD s tBuenaJ Joe Mancini s two TD s against Glassboro Frank Scafidi kicking the first field goal in the schools history tGatewayJ and Joe Mancini s 2 TD s 222 yards on 40 carries 95 yard kick off return and blocked punt against Edgewood where we won on a Scafidi fieldgoal of 33 yards with 31 seconds left in the game It was a great year for a team that had 17 seniors who truly were the reason for our success We ended the season ranked 18th in ali of South Jersey Coach DIOTIO - v ' ' - , ' ' H t ' .
