Dedication To Mr. Arthur L. Shirey, our faithful sponsor and guide through three rugged years of high school, we dedicate our yearbook. Mr. Shirey, you have given your time to the students and us seniors to make our three years a success. You have been a shining example for us to pattern after. We shall never forget your ever-smiling face and pleasing personality. Your being a teacher did not erase the humor and sincerity which made each and every student admire you. So, to you, Mr. Shirey, we dedicate the annual of 1958-1959 with our pride and friendship. In Memoriam At this time we pause in memory of young Jimmy McFarland, the most pleasing little person with the never-erasable smile. We shall always re- member his friendliness, his young delicate being, and his pleasant ways that were loved by all. For him there shall always be a place in each of our hearts. We turn backward to December 21, 1955, and remember when he left his classmates and school friends, and we often wish that he were here with us. History Tommy Fry Janice Hudnut Betty Jo Bevans Barbara Rosecrans In the year of 1947-1948 these twelve young children told their mothers 6ood-by as they trudged off to their very first day of school to Miss Mabel: Carol Schork Jean Sweer Shirley Coney Lyle Legg Jean Tompkins Arlo Miller Louise Nichols Keith Bishoff Then as we went through the second grade, we gained Steve Raymond; however, Barbara Rosecrans was not with us, while Miss Mable continued to guide us. As we spent our last year with Miss Mable, those missing were Tommy Fry, and Jean Sweet. The new pupils were Sharon Allison, Raymond Denny, Jimmy McFarland, Louise Nichols, and Virginia Junk. In the fourth grade, Mrs. Norma Welker was our teacher. New pupils present were: Edgar Shoup, Danny Dunbar, John Timmons, Marvin Ruschill, and Norma Jean Lamb. However, Betty Jo Bevans was not with us this year. Then we were in the fifth grade. We started out with Mrs. Norma Wilkening as our teacher, but she was forced to go West because of asthma. Mrs. Shirley McDaniels took hex place. The new pupils that year were Diana Raymond and Raymond Denny. Next in 1952-1953, we were in the sixth grade, and Mr. John M. Ewing became our teacher. Diana Raymond was unable to be with us this year. Again we had Mr. Ewing as our teacher, but Louise Nichols, Raymond Denny, and Jimmy McFarland were not with us. When we were eighth graders, we were approaching graduation. We were guided by Mr. Ewing. Joe McDermott and Anna Marie Weaver were our new classmates. Steve Raymond left before the first semester; Anna Marie left before graduation. Entering high school, the faculty were Mr. Hrll, Mr. Bowen, Mr. Reed, Mrs. Gould and Mr. Hayworth. The new freshmen were Jean Sweet, Mary F. Murphy, and Dorotheann Ritter. When we were sophomores the new member of the faculty was Mr. Shirey. Doro- theann was not a member of our class that year. As juniors, Mr. Stevenson became the new member of the faculty. Those not present were Norma Jean Lamb and Jean Tompkins, and before the year was up Lyle Legg, Arlo Miller, and Carol Schork had left us. Now we are seniors and at the very gate of life. The new faculty member was Mr. Goetz. Shirley Coney did not attend, but Jean Tompkins Brown was with us again. Mrs. Brown was able to finish with us because of correspondence work she had taken from the University of Missouri to account for her absence in the junior year. - Jeanie Brown - Keith Bishoff OVERSTREET’S DAIRY FARM - Lewistown Will We, the senior class of 1959, being of sound mind and good body, declare this to be our last will and testament. I, Jean Brown, will my sleepless nights to all the future mothers. I, Jean Sweet, will my flirting ability to Cheryl Rae Lillard. Use it resourcefully. I. Keith Bishoff, will my goofing off in class to Larry Hudnut. I, Sharon Allison, will my achievement of four years of high school to anyone who wants to suffer through it. I. Mary Fern Murphy, will my ability to fall during a basketball game to Jane Ann Munzlinger. Take care. 1, John Timmons, will my height to Rowe Burton Ewing. Good luck. I. Janice A. Hudnut, will my unusual forwardness to Elaine Hollowell. I, Joseph W. McDermott, will my ability in sports to Jimmy Hudnut. 1, Marvin Ruschill, will my ability to refrain from telling jokes on the bus to Janet Shannon. I. Arthur Shirey, retiring senior sponsor of 1958-1959, will my headaches to Mrs. Gould, 1959-1960 senior sponsor. Mary Fern Murphy - Joe McDermott - Marvin Ruschill DUCKWORTH STATION.......Fairmont HOWARD'S GARAGE.........La Belle TURNER’S SUNDRIES.......La Belle MANYX TAVERN.............La Belle LEACH ELECTRIC............Kahoka BROOKS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY - Kahoka Prophecy As I walked into the Beauty Salon, whom should I find owning it, but our own Miss Sharon Allison. She has several girls employed under her supervision. And she had finally caught her Texas millionaire. While sitting under the dryer, a lady came in. She looked familiar. Why, it's Mrs. Jean Brown. She was going to have her hair set for the big day - little Mike was getting married. Deciding to tour on, I stopped at the bank to draw on my account. There I met Joe McDermott who was the head bricklayer for the union. They were adding an ad- dition to die bank. Talking to him, 1 found out he and his wife Lola lived here in Sacramento Valley and were doing quite well. Contentedly strolling through Colorado Springs - reminiscing about the magnifi- cent excursions we had on our senior trip - 1 decided once again to explore the depart- ment store where 1 purchased the FAMED Leotards. Starting to move on, I was prac- tically knocked off my feet. Turning to give this rude person a piece of my mind, whom should I find it to be, but Mary Fem Thomson shopping for her twins. She was the former Mary Fem Murphy. By my own absent mindedness, I got eighth degree burns from taking a steam bath.. .Waking up at Memorial Hospital I saw a blurry face administering soothing medicine to my burns. A pony tail and glasses reminded me of my long time pal. Could it be? Yes, it was Janice Hudnut. Now, a registered nurse and married to the famous brain surgeon. Gee, I was glad to see her! After a little deciding, I retired from the steam bath business and journeyed into a sport - horse racing came to view. Away to Kentucky I fly. I was told of the largest auction Kentucky had ever held of thoroughbred horses. Drawing near to the sale barn, I heard a booming voice which jolted me back into reality. Why, it's my old class- mate, Marvin Ruschill, now a famous auctioneer. Now, I have decided to pass through my old home town. Don't these farmers ever drive their tractors any place besides the middle of the highway? Passing to give him the dust, 1 spied John Timmons sitting on this tractor. I stopped him to talk. John told me he owned a 1000-acre farm, and was marketing 660 hogs a year. He had two boys quite capable of helping him. I had come home to tell my folks I was sailing on the next boat for Paris. France. The Leaning Tower of Pisa 1 had longed to see since high school. (This would be my next stop after Paris.) Now, I could settle down and see the many foreign spots, because I had seen all of the dear friends with whom 1 had shared my four wonderful years of high school. - Jean Sweet - Joe McDermott - Sharon Allison DR. ROBERTS - Canton Poem Nine jolly seniors graduated from school. Having abided by the Golden Rule. First, there is Sharon. She's a good natured lass; Not once did we hear a smart word of sass. Next, take ole Joe; He's neat and prim. The gals all fall for a guy like him. John is our guy with his athletic ways; He's helped us through our softball playing days. With Marvin - that jolly lad- just lookin' at him you couldn't stay mad. Mary Fern is the girl who's exception ally sweet; An all-round good sport who can't be beat. A special line about Jean Brown. She's the nicest little mother in anyone's town. Oh, yes, we have Keith. In books he's a whiz. He drives a car we all call Liz. Two seniors are left. One’s name is Jean, Who was the high school boys’ Val- entine Queen. What can 1 say about the last - named Jan? Except she keeps you laughing every hour that she can. -Janice Ann Hudnut LOGSON’S GROCERY.............Canton DIEHL'S GARAGE...............Kahoka DON'S GARAGE.................Canton DR.
