Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1954 volume:

2 Dedication To Mr. LeDoux, our superintendent, who has served the Wiliiamstown school and community so long and faithfully, we sincerely dedicate this book. He has been an ideal, and a shining ex- ample for many of us boys and girls to follow. His smile and greetings were always welcomed. He had a pleasant way of saying No that didn't make you feel too badly. His punishment to wrong-doers was the kind that made you feel sort-of ashamed of yourself. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it most. He was a doctor, and a father, as well as a teacher, for he could soothe an aching tooth here, render first-aid there, and comfort those who needed comforting now. His Christian example, his high ideals, and his stand for higher edu- cation shall always remain stamped in Wiliiamstown life. 3 ----Dean English Mr. Lemmon We are a class that likes and appreciates our janitor, Mr. Oscar Lemmon. Of a morning, his happy smile is appreciated; his interest in those who need help is witnessed every hour of the day; his gentlemanly ways from early to late are shown every minute; his conscientious ef- forts to maintain a perfect building for us is always exhibited; his profound interest in ail com- munity affairs is displayed every day; his being a good sport at all times along with us, and his expert help in carpenter work and any stage fixing' needed, ail go to make Oscar the perfect custodian we find him to be. 4 --The Seniors 6 CORWIN BOWEN Junior Sponsor General Science Agriculture High School Citizenship World History Junior High Agriculture MR. Class History On a bright September morning in 1950, we, the lowly Freshmen started to climb the stairs that most of us would climb for the next four years to the study hall. We were as follows: Gladys Thompson, Janice English, Jean English, Delores Walker, Alan Schork, Cecil Fretwell, Dean English, Bob Owens, and Bill Tucker. The teachers that were to guide us through that first year were Mr. Louis LeDoux, Mr. Norman Merrell, Mr. Alvin Pabst, and Mrs. Beulah Gould. During that first year we regretted the loss of Gladys Thompson, who moved to California. When we came back to school in the fall of 1951, our number had been reduced to seven. We were sorry that Cecil Fretwell had moved away during the summer. There was also a change in the faculty. Mr. Raymond Blair replaced Mr. Pabst. The next year, Mr. William Reger took the place of Mr. Blair. When our Senior year rolled around, we were still the same seven we had been for the past two years. We were Janice English, Jean English, Delores Walker, Bob Owens, Dean English, Alan Schork, and Bill Tucker. This year there was quite a change to the faculty. We were sorry that we had to lose Mr. Merrell and Mr. Reger; however, Mr. Corwin Bowen, Mr. John Moore, and Mr. Jack Ross filled the vacancies. I think that we shall all agree that our high school days will be remembered as the happiest days of our teen-age life. -Bill Tucker Class Prophecy As 1 sit down with wishful dreams in mind, this is what comes into view about the Senior Class of 1953-'54. Delores Walker is tripping lightly down the road of life to Kirksville State Teachers College, and plans to teach in the future. She has a big aim in her career. My next Senior classmate to pop into view is Jean English. She has entered into nurses' training in Quincy, Illinois. She is speeding along rapidly with her work and always comes out at the top. Looking ahead 1 see an interesting lad, Billy Tucker. He is going to college and keeping his politics very much under control. His aim in life is very high. Then 1 go to meet Dean English, a little classmate of our school days, but he's not so little anymore. He's made the veterinary field his life work. He has married his boyhood sweetheart and is happy with their three children. While traveling on 1 meet an old friend, Bobby Owen. He is working on a great ranch in Texas. He's really a dude cowboy and is living a happy carefree life of his own. A shadow passes by and 1 recognize our musical friend, Alan Schork. Boy, has he gone up the ladder of success! He has completed his college work and has a great start in life. Last, but not least, 1 see Janice English. She has settled down on a farm with her childhood sweetheart and is enjoying life with their two children. As my dream draws to a close and slowly fades out of sight, I think of all my classmates as having a great start in life. ----Janice English Baccalaureate Service Processional................. Delores Walker wills the place she occupied weekly on the piano bench beside Mrs. Gould to Sara Nichols. Jean English wills her basketball ability to Jean Marie Lasswell. Win games, Jean Marie I Janice English wills her brown eyes to Rosetta Danforth. Look ahead to the future as she has, Rosetta. Alan Schork wills his vocal talent to Bill Murphy. Have applause from the audience as Alan has, Bill. Dean English wills his Irish temper to Harlie Tompkins. You'll need it, Harlie! Bill Tucker wills his athletic ability to Charles Shoup. Always be on your toes, Charles ! Bob Owen wills his kinky hair to Bob Legg. Take care of it, Bob. Delores Walker wills her ability to keep a constant flow of conversation going to Darryl Ridgely. To our superior faculty, we, the Senior Class, bequeath our appreciation for all the kindness, patience, and courtesy shown us during our four years of high school. ----Delores Walker Class Poem We've climbed the hills and crossed the rugged plain; Lost many a battle. And won many again. And now that our twelve years have come to an end, We'll not forget the teachers and our school friends. We'll never forget the kind deeds they've done. And we'll remark as we pass, In that building, we've had a lot of fun . Farewell, friends, and keep in mind. Look ahead and you will find. The future's brighter all the time. ----Jean English 31 Senior Play •HERE COMES CHARLIE Nora Malone ................Cook at the Elliott home ................Wanda Tripp Officer Tim McGrill........... .
