Text from Pages 1 - 68 of the 1952 volume:

Pat Ellison Always shall we cherish the smile that you carried throughout the year. Ever shall each of us remember those rare winning ways of yours. And forever and ever we can recall those many kindnesses you, and you alone rendered so willingly to the many little children, who all loved you. For cooperation at home, at school, on the team and in the service, your greatest devotion was given. And it may be truly said of you that no greater service did you render than that of giving your very self for your Country and for those many admiring friends who have kept a place in each of their hearts for a remembrance of you. The consoling thoughts uppermost in our minds are that it always seems as if the best are borne away at an early age to enjoy the many awards awaiting them, in that beautiful spacious firmament. There all of us hope to meet you and renew our fellowship again with you. Farewell till that great day. The Staff Editor-in Chief...... Activities Editor.... Art Editor........... Class History In the year 1948, Donna Joy and Karl Bishoff walked upstairs into high school life. Nancy McFarland and Mary Owens entered into the same life fron Fairview school. We were all so frightened we could hardly breathe, when our three efficient teachers, Mr. LeDoux, Mrs. Pauline Hackamack, and Miss Faith Saunders assembled in the study hall to find out our names. After a short time, we had braved up and were laughing more than the rest. Later in the year, Karl and Donna were both in the Junior play while Karl was also in the Senior play. Donna, Nancy, and Karl all thre played basketball. The next fall we were back as “snappy Sophomores. Several changes had been made in the school. Mr. LeDoux remained, while Mrs. Beulah Gould, Mr. Norman Merrell, and Mr. Edward Miller were new. We were still the smallest class. Donna and Karl were chosen Queen and King of the 1950 P. T. A. Carnival. Donna, Karl, and Mary were in the Senior play, while Nancy was in the Junior one. Donna, Nancy, and Karl all three made the first team in basketball. The next year we were “jolly Juniors. We were happy to gain Geraldine Stotler from St. Patrick. Mr. A1 Pabst was a new teacher in place of Mr. Miller. Donna, Geraldine, Nancy, and Karl were all fortunate enough to be on the first team in basketball. Donna was elected captain of the girl’s team. Our Junior play, “Who Killed Aunt Caroline ’was said to be a success. After three years of hard work we are now the “sophisticated Seniors. We gained Mr. Raymond Blair in the place of Mr. Pabst. Donna and Karl are both on the first teams in basketball, with Mary, Nancy and Geraldine as cheerleaders. Two of the members of the class have gone to school together all twelve years. They are Donna and Karl. We have all had a great deal of fun, and our records are above the average at W. H. S. Donna Joy These days will always be remembered. Senior Class Prophecy One bright sunny day in the late fall of 1956, when I had returned home from the WAF’s with an honorable discharge, I sat down to think over my tour in Korea. Just as I fell asleep I had a dream about my former classmates of Williamstown High Senior Class. I was wonder- ing where and what each of them was doing. Suddenly I saw myself stepping off a plane at the Quincy Air Port and hailing a taxi. To my surprise I found Karl Bishoff driving the taxi. While we were motoring into town, he told me he was married and living on a farm west of Quincy. Karl told me Geraldine Stotler had just returned home from a trip in Michigan. Meanwhile she had worked her way through a Beauty Academy. And now she owned her own shop in Quincy. So I decided to visit her for my first stop. While I was waiting for Geraldine to “fix my hair, we discussed the other Seniors of our class. She told me Donna Joy had gone to Gem City Business College two years. She directed me out to Mormans wher I found Donna working as a private secretary. She is still the happy care-free girl of 1952. While visiting with Donna, I asked about Mary Louise Owens. She told me she had gone to art school and had taken one general course. She is now living on a farm west of Williamstown rearing twin boys. After bidding Donna a casual farewell, I decided to visit back in my own home town. But just as I arrived in Williamstown, my dream vainished. But I found that I d never forgotten my happy days at the school of my choice. Nancy McFarland “Have you ever appeared as a witness in a suit before? asked the attorney. “Why, of course! replied Nancy McFarland. “Will you please tell the jury just what suit it was? - “It was a blue suit, Nancy replied quickly, “with white collar and cuffs, and buttons all the way down the front. The Class Makes Its Will We, the Senior Class of 1951-52 of Williamstown High School, Lewis County, State of Missouri, being of sound mind and body, do here ordain, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament: Donna Joy wills her bookkeeping to Marilyn Pierce. Good Luck, Marilyn! Geraldine Stotler wills her temper to Jean English. Maybe it 11 help you to tell people off. Mary Owens wills her ability to lose her glasses to Mazadene Morris. Nancy McFarland wills her personality to get along with everyone to Joanne Smith. Karl Bishoff wills his way of teasin' to Delores Walker. Be careful it might get you into trouble. It has Bish. To Mr. LeDoux, our sponsor, we will our thanks for putting up with us the past years. To the Faculty we will our thanks for the knowledge they have so patiently tried to pound into our heads. Donna wills her “Joy to anyone that wants it. Geraldine wills her speech to Betty June Edwards. Don't talk too much, June. It has got “Gerry in trouble. Mary wills her way of writing stories to Buddy Fishback. Try and use it, Bud. Nancy wills her history ability to Alan Schork. Karl wills his ability to play basketball to Bobby Owens. To the P. T. A. we will our thanks for the things they have purchased for our use. To the Custodian we will our thanks for keeping the school building so nice and clean and “fixed up. To the Cooks we will our thanks for the good dinners we have had. To the Board of Education we will our thanks for letting us use the building the past years. To the Bus Drivers we will our thanks for letting us ride on their buses. Signed: Witnessed by: Rcminsccnces In the twelve years that we Seniors have gone to school, some to Williamstown and some to other schools, I m sure we can all look back and remember something which stands out from the rest of the amusing things or little incidents which might have happened to us in the past years of our school life. It was a few weeks after school started, when Karl was a Freshman, that the teacher asked him a question. He answered it, but as the teacher was a bit hard of hearing, she took him wrong. The teacher arose, grabbed him by the collar, and into the office they went. He had a pair of boots on that were too big. All he could do was stand and shake in his boots, because it was his first time in the office, and his last he thought, for a while. So as long as he lives, he will never forget his first trip to see the superintendent- not altogether on friendly terms. “Ah, Karl We have all had many laughs throughout our high school, but the one concerning Donna happened when we were Sophomores. We were in algebra class when Mr. Merrell asked her what the edge of a box was. She replied, “Where the faces meet. Of course that was the correct answer, but we all had a good laugh for several days. While we were collecting advertisments for the yearbook, Donna whispered to Karl, “Is he married? (meaning the solicitor.) Karl to salesman, “Hey, are you married? Salesman, “No. Karl to Donna, “No he isn t Donna. Of course we all got a good laugh from this, and I think Donna’s face got just a tiny bit red. “Remember, Donna?’ One day in general science our teacher was cleaning things after an experiment. We students were supposed to be helping, when we got the bright idea of stretching a rope across the door. Everyone had taken his turn in jumping. One of them reached over and stretched the rope a little higher. Nancy came running and gave a leap over the rope. But, the worst was yet to come. When she looked up to her surprise, there stood Mr. LeDoux. She stood there frozen stiff expecting him to take her up to the office. But he just smiled and said, “If you want to jump the rope, why don’t you put your rope over there in the corner. “Remember that one, Nancy? Geraldine’s first day at Williamstown High School was a very serious day for her. She said she had heard so much about all the teachers, especially, Mr. LeDoux. But she wasn’t a bit afraid of him. But oh, those others. She was almost scared to death for about two months. After that she got a little more courage. Now she’s not at all afraid of them and likes them all fine. “First impressions aren’t always lasting. Are they, Gerry?” Mary Owens will never forget her own rustling into class one morning. She was in no hurry, but wished to get seated before Miss Saunders caught her up running around, and send her out of class before it began. Well, just as Mary plumped down into the chair, she hit something with a thud. It was the floor. Karl Bishoff had removed the chair just before she sat. At that moment Miss Saunders entered. When she saw her sitting on the floor laughing, and the chair turned over, she commanded, “Mary Louise, if you can’t stop laughing, and clowning, you can get out.” Mary got out. “Ah, Mary and Karl!” I’m sure none of us shall ever forget all the merry compliments, and of course, the scoldings the teachers have paid to us. We won’t forget how serious and strict Mr. LeDoux looked on the first day in high school; however, we soon learned that when we got to know him better he wasn’t nearly so serious-only in history. We won't forget math or bookkeeping, and Mr. Merrell’s efforts in teaching them. Neither shall we forget Mrs. Gould and her determination to make us all good singers and perfect grammarians, nor Mr. Blair’s good coaching and health instructing. As we look back through the years, every teacher, every student, and this school have given us something to remember and cherish always Karl Bishoff One day in English class Mrs. Gould asked each Senior what they wanted to do after graduating. Geraldine answered, beauty shop, Nancy,‘WAF, Donna, nurse, and Mary, an artist. Mrs. Gould: ‘Now, Karl, what do you want to be ?” Karl: “A vitamin.” Mrs. Gould: “Why Karl, that is impossible, because you can't be a vitamin.” Karl: “Oh, yes, I can. The other day on an office window I noticed Vitamin B ' Class Poem Out class will not return that day, When the bells ring out again in the fall. These twelve long years we've worked to earn, And now as the days are come, for school and our friends, we'll yearn. We each shall go our way, But always old memories we'll recall. There is Geraldine Stotler with ambition and wit, To pin a curl, and new styles to fit. Later on a family, and a home, With a haven all her own. With it as her guide, And America on her side. As for Mary Owens it is not fame or fortune, But health and happiness in its portion. Should these be gained, there is much she'll find to do; She shall seek art, and possibly writing too. And may her work be not in vain, And may determination be her aim. Donna Joy shall be off for business college; Back to her studies gaining knowledge, And seeking through the height of her vision, Work in an office her decision. Including her career, a home and family is her aim, Life in its height can be hers to gain. Nancy McFarland will start her career, To join the WAF's and leave us here. She'll walk upon foreign soils, Witnessing war in its spoils; She'll stand at the head of our fighting men Praying to God that they might win. Karl Bishoff, to be a farmer, he may seek, Or perhaps a sailor on the sea. The battlefield may be his feat, And may he from all success not flee, All pleasures, and all care, He and time shall prepare. There will always be Seniors to graduate; There will always be students to educate; And bells to be ringing; Always glad voices singing; Always ambitions to fill; And always a parting time, until the day the earth stands still.
