Cain CLASS HISTORY In the Autumn of 1943 Kenneth Selway, Murle Durbin, Marjorie Lill - ard, Mable Nichols, Doris English,-Veda Hawkins, Margaret Bevans, Imo- gene Joy and Jackie McClain enrolled in the Freshman Class of WHS with the following teachers: Louis LeDoux, Maxine Walker and Faith Sauhders. On Sept. 2 at 9 o’clock appearing before us with suspicious looking en- rollment cards was our Supt. requiring our trembling fingers to record our previous school records on them. It was during this ordeal that our Supt. made the following consoling statement: “Don’t look so scared, there has never been anyone killed yet in high school.” We respondeo by smiling faintly and we felt somewhat re- lieved I We even began to relax a little and look around. We felt about back to normal again and then a shattering of the stillness with a clang — the bell! Then appearing before us was a tall heavy set, red-haired tea- cher who called him-self Mr. Carney. He gave us one disgusted look and with a sigh of relief said, “I’m not going to be your English teacher, af- ter all. A Maxine Walker will be here to take over tomorrow.” Soon after that we had our first conference with Miss Saunders. After meeting all our teachers and taking a look into the different rooms that was about all for our first day. We started home feeling so green we were anxious for tomorrow to come so we could start learning something. It seemed that we kept this attitude .throughout the year, and needless to say we really did accomplish things. Why, even four of us were xnvitca to attend the Junior-Senior Banquet that year. The great sorrow in our Freshman Year was that we lost Veda Hawkins. Then we became Snappy Sophomores. We were very sorry to lose Murle Durbin but happy to gain Rose LaVelle toward the end of the year. As Sophomores we felt very important. We were better acquainted with high school activities. The most of we Sophomores were happy to be in the Jr. play, “Betty Jane from Punkin Lane.” We entered our Jr. year with 8 members. We lost Rose LaVelle during the year. We gained Lucille Smith, Louise Dean, and Leola Lill- ard for a short time. We had the Jr. Play “He COULDN’T Marry Five.” We all were athletic enough to become first team on the Basketball Squad. Some of us were chosen to taxe part in the Sr. Play that vear. We gave the Jr. it Sr. Banquet St Prom on Tuesday May 7. We enrolled our Senior Year at WHS as a class of 1 boy and 5 girls. We had lost (husbands had gained) Doris English, Jackie McClain and Lucille Smith. Leola Lillard was again with us here. Tms proved to be the year of great happenings---Mable’s marriage, Imogen 's presidency to the Council, Marjorie’s famous public speaking, Margaret's Super Speeding in typing, Kenneth’s excellent patience in getting along with the Senior Gi- rls and Leola’s completing high school work. SENIOR CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of 1946-47 of Williamstown High School, Lewis County, State of Missouri being of sound mind and body, do here ordain, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testa- ment, Marjorie Lillard wills her bashfulness to Libby Tucker. Mable Cain wills her habit of missing school to Donald Brown. Margaret Bevans wills her quickness in basketball to Lucy Ellison. Leola Lillard wills her lipstick to Neva English. Imogene Joy wills her “Dentyne Gum” mastication process to Libby Tucker, Margaret Bevans wills “Herself” to Bobby Briscoe. Marjorie Lillard wills her unique ability to arrange the placement of curls to Billie Van Os. Margaret Bevans wills her implicit expression to Claude Nichols to use when the teacher ii looking. Mable Cain wills her success in trading “Nickels” for Cain ' to Phyllis McClain, Leola Lillard wills her typing speed to Donald Brown to be used to help him get to school of a cold morning. Kenneth Selway wills his Sophomore girl friend to Charle. Lillard for one week-end. Imogene Joy wills her brilliance to Kenneth St. Clair to be used after she is out of school Mable Cain wills her old name to anyone who would be interested in making money. Kenneth Selway wills his Athletic Qualities to the future star oi the W. H. S. Basketball team. Imogene wills her “Joy” to Elvin Hinton. Marjorie Lillard wills her rare intellect to J. W. Bevans to be used in the political world. Kenneth Selway wills his pensmanship to Phvllis McClain. Leola Lillard wills her pretty clothes to Lawrence Nichols. My Prophecy There will always be sunshine and sorrow, There will always be sparkle on dew, And there will always be that tomorrow That will bring back the memories of you. For, the senior class, will not return When the bell rings in the fall; For each will go his separate way- Sweet memories to recall. Now there is Mable Cain so prone To patch a sock and keep a home. To love and cherish is her guide And may the gates be open wide. Lovely little Imogene Joy, To give her love to just one boy And to the alter she will go, Before another year or so. And you can bet that Margaret Bevans too Will lay her books aside, and bid adieu, To find a love so kind and true And build a home for just ‘‘we two . Now Marjorie Lillard will stay clear. And try to start a great career Where it will take a lot of grit, But her motto is, ‘‘Now don’t you quit”. Leola Lillard wants not fame But for herself, her health regain, To keep in school and ‘‘let me see’’ To try to make that college degree. All the girls prophesy I’ve told. And yet one more I do behold Now in this senior class, a man Kennith Selway, the radio fan . All the class a model be All to me, sweet memories All you do is wait and see What becomes of my prophesy. By Leola Lillard FAREWELL POEM Our SENIOR year is almost through- And then we must say, “Good-by' to you. Our year has been full of fun and joy, The other classes, we hope we did not annoy, We don’t want to praise our teachers low-- For they taught us ALL we know. And when we leave at the end of the year For W. H. S. we all shall cheer. As we go cm our way We will think of you every day. Good-bye to everyone-- In this school we have had lots of fun. THE SEN IOR CLASS UNDER GRADS Junior Nichols Charley Ltllard Melvin Allison JUNIOR CLASS PROPHECY Five years from today The Junior Class will start to stray. While on my evening walk I met Junior and we chanced to talk. He said, “I left home very young,” No more shall I roam, he said he had sung. He said, “Melvin had gone to war For he loved his wife no more, And Charley had two kids and a wife To be true to till the end of her life I must move on today, For my job I would lose if I should delay- For I am a lazy bum Ana the lazy man's song I will hum. Our lives aren't very nice to see But we do live right happily. By- Billie Van Os SOPHOMORES LOIS MILLER MARY ELIZABETH TUCKER EMMA LOU LILLARD GYNELL BISHOFF NEVA ENGLISH J. W. BEVANS KENNETH ST. Our aims are lofty-- Our ambitions numerous, and through all we try to be humerous We are working hard so as to attain In the Junior Class our snare of fame. By- Mary Tucker Glimpses The world slows up for a while as I, Emma Lou Lillard, take my crystal ball in my hands. I see the Sophomores of 46-47 after they haye graduated in the year 50-51 Libby is at Chillicothe studying to be a journalist. Lois Dean is by now an accomplished musician. Neva is sitting on a horse viewing all of her race horses. I see Guynell is an acrobat and will soon be seen at Kahoka Fair. Kenneth St. Clair is a clown of Ringling Brothers. J. W. is an airplane co-pilot flying for a big transport. Donald is a great comedian. Now, my crystal ball is growing dim and everything is still and the world goes marching on.
