Closs Prophecy LETITIA RYAN Prophet In order to answer the requests of publicity agents and the pleas of newspaper reporters, I shall try to give you all information on hand concerning the reunion this past week of the 1957 graduates of the Williamston High School. Be- cause of our tribe's many celebrities, numerous rumors have been circulated to create interest in the meeting. First, no hug-e quantities of firewater were consumed and only coffee and unspiked punch were served. Second, contrary to all reports, the tribe is quite civilized. We haven't gone Indian or turned savage! In fact it was only the uncontrollable joy of seeing each other once again that caused us to go a little wild. To prevent error I shall quote verbatim from my diary. DEAR DIARY, EVENING DECEMBER 7 Many memories flooded into my mind today when I received the plain white invitation announcing the reunion of the 1957 graduating class of the Williamston High School. I made plans to arrive a week early in order to.help the former Mary Lee White, now wife of the Mayor, prepare for the arrival of our guests of honor, Mr. George McRorie and Miss Anna Belle Privott. Miss Sue Shipley, first lady Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, called, and we made plans to fly down together. DEAR DIARY, EVENING DECEMBER 15 Although I am exhausted from the trip, I shall attempt to remain awake long enough to record the many interesting events of the day. At the controls of the plane which picked me up this morning was Delbert Wobbleton. He informed me that he and Tommy Phelps operated a small thriving airline company. Neatly tucked inside his plane were the musical director of Radio City Musical Hall, Ann Darden, the Metropolitian opera star, Blanche Manning, Senator J. W. Hardi- son, and Sally Crisp, social worker in the Bowery. On the way down Senator Hardison and I, Ambassador to France, dis- cussed matters of foreign policy. When we arrived, we were confronted immediately by many problems. Wade Hardison, now in the Coast Guard, and Ann Napier, a Rogers, CBS sports commentator, and Kenneth Kurley, New Willie Beacham, a correspondent in Tibet, Russia, won't be able to make the trip. Jimmy pitcher, weren't sure if they could attend. But, missionary in York Yankee we were all overjoyed to hear that Mrs. Pattie Mobley had again become a mother only two weeks before and could there- fore join the fun. North Carolina Governor Henry Handy Qhes still a great leaderj phoned acceptance for his private sec- retary, Edna Taylor, and for himself. DEAR DIARY, DECEMBER 20 Because the reunion is being held during the Christmas Edwards, now Mr. and Mrs. and professors at North Carolina Thomas, of Atlantic Christian College, arrived today to make tomorrow with Kenneth Perry, an Air Cadet, will be Charles States Navy. Other teachers and professors who have already Jane Peele, and Sylvia Griffin. DEAR DIARY, DECEMBER 21 A special plane is being chartered by the graduates who aire, and Mary Frances Martin, Hollywood's latest sensation, and New Year Holidays, Mitchell Gurganus and Frankie State College, will be able to add to the gaiety. Dr. B. B. arrangements in his home for our servicemen. Arriving Lee Edwards and Robert Bowen, members of the United come or will come in the next day or two are Jo Ann Tew, reside in the West. Eunice Grimes, wife of a Texas million- head the list. Included in this distinguished group will be Peggy Wynne, Miss Martin's publicity agent, Freddie Harrison, a successful business man, Robert Williams of Williams' School of Dance, his secretary, Betsy Reddick, and Evelyn Council, wardrobe director at Warner Brother's Studio. DEAR DIARY, DECEMBER 22 I noted today that many of the graduates have kept Williamston as their home. Gordon Peele, internationally famous for his automotive designs, remains a home town boy. Jimmy Mizzell has become a Williamston farmer. Some of the local homemakers are Carolyn Beauchemin, Emma Jean Reddick, Peggy Goddard, Peggy Rogers, and Jeannette Bowen. As I looked upon these fine mothers and their children today, it made me proud indeed to know them. Although we have only one representative in Hollywood, we have several in television. Virginia Holloman has a va- riety show where she plays her beloved records. Janice Hardison is one of the girls with peaches and cream complexion who advertise cosmetics on the 364,000 Question. Lois Modlin has become the funniest comedian of the season and Kay Taylor as gossip columnist can't be topped. DEAR DIARY, DECEMBER 23 , , , Last minute notes for reunion. Priscilla Gurganus and Nancy Britton, the countrys best designers, arrived today and brought with them many beautiful creations. Because everything couldn't.be put in one car, Shirley Pate, test driver for General Motors, volunteered to drive and bring a load. Florist Ann Harrison will contribute flowers while Mary Lou Cox will contribute her skill as an expert hair stylist. Tommy Gurganus, Williamston's newest barber, will be on hand if any of the alumni need a shave or haircut. . . l As Dale Gardner, noted photographer, records the reunion on pictures, novelist Barbara Peele will describe it in words. Mary Frances Ayers, the famed financier, will handle the money problems. Emma Jean Godard, today's Betty Crocker, and Alex Jones, owner of a chain of grocery stores, will workitogether to prepare our banquet. Because our novelist and photographer covered the remaining portion of the reunion, I shall not repeat. So as you can see, no harm was done, no one was scalped, no massacre occured. Perhaps the blood curdlmg Indian screams in the night did awaken some or perhaps the steady throbbing of the tom-toms caused some concern, but after all it was the first big gathering of the tribe, and it would be many moons before they would meet again.
