29 Mau 'BASEBALL Standing, Left to Right-Engardio, Mgr., D.Selfridge, D.Gorsline, W.West, B. Stover fCaptainJ, R.Stover, I.Rice, J.Glaser, Coach Soper. ' Sitting, Left to Right-B.Fow1er, B.Overholt, W.West, M.Garey, D.Wycoff, O. Ley, C.Risch. The first part of the season was very disappointing because the continued wet weather caused the postponement of the first four games. However, the team finally managed to play seven out of its nine games scheduled, winning five and losing two. Because of the stormy weather at the start of the season, it was almost impossible to tell where each team stood in the final standings. The team owes much of their success to Burton Stover and his powerful right arm. He 'fanned' a majority of the opposing batsmen and kept the few hits, that were collected from him, few and far between. Burton was elected captain. The two games lost were both due to faulty fielding. In most of their games the Hornets did pretty well in this department but some of them had a lot of trouble while standing in the batters box. - Following are the scores in order: W.H.S.-13, Okemos-lg W.H.S.-5, Webber- ville-43 W.H.S.-6, Fowlerville-73 W.H.S.-4, Dansville-23 W.H.S.-5, Everett-5, W.H.S.-O, Leslie-lg W.H.S.-5, Stockbridge-5. The games not played were with Holt and Haslett. . 'EDITOR'S NOTE:- 1957 pictures were used since the squad had not been chosen at the time of publication.
