The Student Council of Williamston High School was organized in September 1957 by the adoption of a constitution drawn up by a committee of students and teachers for the express purpose of giving the student body a voice in determining future policies and promoting a higher standard of responsibilityg a better understanding of self-governmentg a better school spirit on the part of the student bodyg and a better feeling of cooperation between students and teachers. Officers were elected from the representatives chosen by each class and club. The officers for the first semester were: Virginia Haker, Presidentg Robert Wood, Vice Presidentg Lucile Durkee, Sec. R Trees. The second semester officers are: Dan Wycoff, Presidentg Virginia Haker, Vice President. This organization has solved some of the outstanding problems of the school as well as furnished the students with some very excellent entertain- ment in assembly programs. We all believe this experience will be most valuable in life.
