Carmany. The only outstanding memories in the freshman and sophomore years were the lovely parties we enjoyed. In our junior year, Mrs. Ensfield became our assistant sponsor, coaching our successful mystery play, 'TIGER HCUSE,' and giving us valuable suggestions for our Courtesy Week. The Junior year was climaxed with entertaining the sen- iors to an unique banquet. he theme of the fete was NLa Boutique de Musique' and the entertainment was provided by Mr. Earle T. Parchman of station W.J.I.M. Lansing. The Senior Class began its activities by electing the following officers: Bruce Fowler, pres.g Dale Gorsline, vice pres.g Ivan Rice, secretary and treas.g Lucile Durkee, Maurice Smith, and Stanley Dunckel, lst. semester Student Council representetivesg and Virginia Barrows, Ivan Rice, and Robert Overholt, 2nd. sem- ester representatives. Mrs. Ensfield assisted by Mr. Bray, replaced Mr. Carmany in advising our class, since Mr. Germany accepted a position in Flint. The sen- iors gave as their annual play 'SMILIN' THROUGH' which was a tremendous success. They cooperated with the F.F.A. in sponsoring a successful carnival, the Junior Class in planning the Junior-Senior Prom. The Seniors published WThe Hornetu under the editorship of Luc and Maurice Smith and the managership of Robert Overholt and John Clausen. qScho1astic honors were achieved by Myrtle Tobias, who was named valedictor- ian and Lucile Durkee, the salutatorian of the class. School Days were completed with the Bacculaureate Service on June 5, Class Night on June 7, and Graduation on June 9. The Seniors then left for a delightful trip which was enjoyed by almost all cf the class c F3 .gif Q TH E HORNET Arlene Ahern Glee Club '55,'56 Ben Travato '56-'57 Athletic Association Sec. a Treas. During the season as a whole, the team made a fair showing of itself, winning three, tying one, and losing four. This record is quite good when compared with the scores of the last two or three years. The Hornets ended the season in a tie for Fourth place in the Tri-County league. Following are the scores in order: W.H.S.-6, Dansville-125 W.H.S.-12, Stock- bridge-l5g W.H.S.-14, Leslie-Og W.H.S.-6, Okemos-63 W.H.S.-6, Diamondale-335 W.H.S.-O, Holt-14g W.H.S.-51, Fowlerville-6, W.H.S.-19, Alumnae-7. Bruce Fowler was elected by his teamates to be their captain and lead them through the season. Ronald Stover, half-back, and Dale Gorsline, full-back won the second squad for the All County League. Bruce Fowler, left-end, Dan Wycoff half-back, Bob McCarrick, right-end, and Dick Wells, right-tackle, received hon- orable mention. .sZ7 GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM Top row: F.Gregory, P.Barrows, B.Motcheck, B.G1aser, Miss Johnson Ccoachj D. With a small and fast breaking team the girls got under way and walked over every team that came up against them. Needless to say, they won the champion- ship of the league. Led by Captain WBunny' Barrows, the girls did a right good job and should be highly praised for their work. They showed lots of power in both offensive and defensive play. Following are the scores: Williamston-20, Webberville-4x5 Williamston-35, Alumae-245 Williamston-20, Stock bridge-6'g Williamston-16, Fowlerville-6'g Williamston-30, Webberville-165 Williamston-24, Fowlerville-10. At the close of the season, the girls and Miss Johnson, their coach, were invited to attend a Play Day at Michigan State College. Here they defeated two more teams that were matched against them. With the fastest and scrappiest team the Hornets have had in a long time, Williamston enjoyed a most successful season. Taking the season as a whole the won 12 and lost 2. In league competition they won 7 and lost 1. The Hornets finished the season in a tie with Stockbridge for the Tri-County league champ- ionship. They ran up 409 points to their opponents 278. The Hornets won over Webberville, 31-15 , Holt, 54-14 , Haslett, 27-17 , Alumnae, 19-13: Fowlerville, 26-2l'g Vocational School of Lansing, 56-16, Dans ville, 25-16 , Fowlerville, 29-223 Leslie, 26-2l 'g Okemos, 40-10 3 Haslet, 32-103 and Dansville, 43-535 the two games lost were to Perry, 16-40 and Stock- bridge, 27-30 lovertimel. The team owes much of its success to Ronald Stover sharp-shooting all Tri- County forward and Bob McCarrick, a guard who made the second team of the all Tri-County. Ronald scored 182 points during the regular season. Captain Dan Wycoff was second in team scoring with 76 points. In tournament competition, the Hornets seemed to have lost some of their power and defensive ability. The old zip' was lacking. They beat Okemos the first night but lost to Fowlerville the second night. '-League games. Y 29 Mau 'BASEBALL Standing, Left to Right-Engardio, Mgr., D.Selfridge, D.Gorsline, W.West, B. The first part of the season was very disappointing because the continued wet weather caused the postponement of the first four games. However, the team finally managed to play seven out of its nine games scheduled, winning five and losing two. Because of the stormy weather at the start of the season, it was almost impossible to tell where each team stood in the final standings. The team owes much of their success to Burton Stover and his powerful right arm. He 'fanned' a majority of the opposing batsmen and kept the few hits, that were collected from him, few and far between. Burton was elected captain. The two games lost were both due to faulty fielding. In most of their games the Hornets did pretty well in this department but some of them had a lot of trouble while standing in the batters box. - Following are the scores in order: W.H.S.-13, Okemos-lg W.H.S.-5, Webber- ville-43 W.H.S.-6, Fowlerville-73 W.H.S.-4, Dansville-23 W.H.S.-5, Everett-5, W.H.S.-O, Leslie-lg W.H.S.-5, Stockbridge-5. The games not played were with Holt and Haslett. .
