We came here as freshman, some of us young and inexperienced, others older and starting a new career. But we all had the desire and determination to succeed. In these three years we ' ve grown in confidence and maturity, while learning the knowledge of our chosen profession. Fortunately, we ' ve had help along the way. Not only from our instructors, families and friends, but from among ourselves. There ' s a special place in everyone of us that acknowledges the support we needed and received from each other as we exper- ienced the same problems throughout our time at TWHSN. With this yearbook we would like to share those times, during the past three years, that have brought us to our happy ending β€” and a new begin- ning. Believe it or not β€” I survived!! My very first stripe! Dreams come true. Rock-a-bye baby . . The class of 1986 is dedicating our yearbook to an instructor who, for three years, has fulfilled her teaching obliga- tions and more. Besides being a teacher, she has been a friend, a mentor, and someone who has just been there for us. Always willing to listen to our problems, she ' s offered constructive criticism and advice to us all and shown by example how one can be a competent and sympa- thetic nurse, whose main goal is the wel- fare of her patient. She ' s brought an en- thusiasm for the health care profession into each of her lectures and carried this quality over into every individual en- counter with her students. Thank you Karen Peterman for giving us the help and encouragement to follow our beliefs and chosen profession. 4. % Our class would like to recog- nize the efforts of Mrs. Connie Perry β€” our financial aid offi- cer. Without her help and advice many of us would have found it impossible to continue our edu- cation. She has gone out of her way to be a friend to each of us and to make our payments as painless as possible. Thank you Mrs. Perry. a a Q, k o ' + VTLOAN. Our life at TWHSN revolved around People β€” namely our fellow students . . . FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION . . . And the instructors who guided us to our moment of triumph. Pant, Pant, Pant, Blow! Justice is not only blind, but deaf and dumb. Mrs. Derr assumed her position as Director of the School of Nursing in 1983, the year our class started. We have learned and grown to- gether. She has stood behind us and for us with problems that have risen during our time here. In addition to being our Director she has also been a friend. Williamsport ' s budding Rembrandt. Mr. Creamer joined us as CEO in the spring of 1984. With his leadership we have en- tered the era of DRG ' s and prospective payments. Though many changes are tak- ing place, TWH still maintains quality care. Mrs. Eleanor Derr, Director of Nursing Education Mr. Donald Creamer, CEO Mrs. Gladys Cellini, Residence Director Mr. Michael Heyd, Director Of Learning Resource Center The three wisemen they ain ' t. Ms. Nancy Hood Fundamentals I II Nursing I This is where it all began Starting out as a lowly freshman. Learning about Florence, acid-base And giving shots in the proper place. Don ' t forget making (drinking) milkshakes And seeing how much SSE one can take. Of course nothing can compare at all To writing a twelve page anecdotal. But some of our best times to re- member Was walking to Lyco in mid-De- cember. Miss Karen Peterman Mrs. Anne Kremski Just how long do I have to look interested? 10 β– β€’i - Ik. Acting out in group and learning UNO Enabled us to see the light β€” That what you read and what you know Doesn ' t always prove Freud was right. Mrs. Laurie Guise Mrs. Mary Ellen Rosencrance 11 Surgery Our passage should be immortalized! Through the field of the sterilized. With hats and masks and booties That covered our faces and shaking footies. Changing dressings and giving shots Under the eagle eyes of Maria, Kathy and Dot. Who can forget that imperious finger of Mrs. G ' s Beckoning us through the window in surgery, The questions about anatomy and operations That couldn ' t be answered without trepidation. But the ten weeks were finally over and done And to our surprise, some of us actually had fun. Mrs. Maria Gustafson Who knows what dark and devious thoughts lurk behind these faces? Crutches, canes, walkers and traction β€” Parading with these made us an attraction, In order to become more self-aware We muddled through with all this hardware. But best of all our Rehab memories Was the last day ' s breakfast at Elby ' s. 13 Obstetrics Isn ' t she sweet! Look at the baby! Wasn ' t she worth the labor and delivery? Where did all the diapers go? And how was I to know To cover the boys with a blanket In order to avoid getting wet. Now that we can answer a new mother ' s query Can we come out of the nursery? Our class ever came to a unanimous decision? 48 A big part of our life at TWHSN took place in the Residence . This was our home for three years. It took a lot of getting used to . We had to adjust to waiting for a free shower stall, the washer and dryer, the phone, and always the elevator. We also had to adjust to each other and learn to compromise, but in the end, we did Exotic Ann β€” the Sun Goddess. 49 If the studying doesn ' t kill me, the phone will! Studying, we all had to do it. However, we each did it our own way. Some had to do it alone, while others did better in a group. There were those of us who stud- ied all the time, and there were some who only needed a short period to get every- thing. But we all learned to adapt β€” es- pecially to noise. Honest, the ultraviolet rays enhance our ability to study. 50 Girls! Girls! There ' s a wrinkle! Every week for a year we had a learning lab. This meant last min- ute cramming for the quiz and won- dering if we ' d pass the practicum. Besides having to learn how to do all those things β€” we had to do them to each other. 51 I have a pulse! Do we practice on each other? Open your mouth . . . Clinical β€” This was where we applied our classroom knowledge and skills. It was going to bed at midnight and getting up at 0500. But it was also here that we achieved our greatest sense of accomplishment. See Nurse, this is how you do it. So Gail, tell me about Fatty Liver Disease. star i r 52 ' 4 7 o Sue, we ' re not wearing tassels this year. X Although some of us were short of funds and some were short of time, one thing we all had was moral support. From our families, boy- friends, girlfriends, husbands, and wives we had the needed love and encouragement to continue. One support system that was invalu- able was our classmates and friends. They were always there and knew what we were go- ing through. Thanks. I thought you said you studied on weekends. Holly? % When you ' re desperate for love everything counts. 53 A o o o v 9 c Right: What happens now? The way they were. It will be hard to realize that after 1988 there won ' t be any TWHSN. None of us will forget being called to Med Hall to be told, by Mr. Creamer that the school was to be closed. Although there had been ru- mors, the official no- tification was still a shock. It will be diffi- cult to imagine that no one will be learn- ing how to give en- emas, take BP ' s, coach pregnant mothers, give injec- tions and IV meds, answer questions by instructors, study for tests, meet lots of in- teresting people, soothe crying chil- dren or having the satisfaction of know- ing you graduated from the best and ol- dest diploma school in the state. We ' ll miss you TWHSN. The official news. WILUAMSPORT SUN-GAZETTE Williamsport, Pa., Thursday, February 28, 1985 School of Nursing In Final Chapter Cl .Br 1HIIII Hi iffBRiiBM 111! JΒ .
