All the days that seemed so far away have passed. All the loves I thought would last forever have died. So many happy moments are now happy memories, But . . . I still have tomorrows filled with the hope of things to come. And although I watch the sunset now, I know it will rise again. Unknown h ' 31 DEDICA TION -. .. ' ■.■.-.; ' ■- j ■... ■: ; -. - • ft ;i Dear Family and Loved Ones, You have celebrated and struggled with us through three years of nurses ' training. You were there to share our joy when we received our letters of acceptance. And you were there to lift us out of the depths of depression when we discovered that nurses ' training wasn ' t quite what we expected it to be. You listened patiently to our glowing accounts of first injections and completed projects. You were there to offer support when care plans brought despair. Many were the times you gave us confi- dence and courage to go on. We haven ' t forgotten the little things you ' ve done. You helped us move our belongings to and from the residence five times. You supported our class by buying items which we sold as money-making projects. And occasionally you slipped home- made cookies into our suitcases! We want to apologize for the times when our patience wore thin and our tempers flared. We were and are grateful for all you ' ve done. And now, as we move our belongings from the residence for the last time, as we close our books and accept our stripes we pause to dedicate our yearbook to you. May this dedication in some small way repay you for the love and support you have shared so freely. Lovingly, Your Student Nurse Recognition We, the class of 1982, recognize what an important role you, our housemothers, play here at WHSN. Your cheery smiles welcomed us at the desk so many times. We ' ve joked and laughed with you and for these times we are truly grate- ful. Then there were the times when nobody else would listen and you were there to care, listen patiently and lovingly of- fer us a bit of hope. We always felt relieved after sharing our burdens with you and shedding some tears. On the other hand, when you were feeling down — these times were rather rare — we felt honored to share your griefs and pains. Remember all the secrets we shared? Remember the times we were so happy and excited that it took us an hour to change our pegs because we were so busy telling you the latest news? Remember the times we couldn ' t stand to study one more minute and we would invariably show up at the desk for a chat? We will remember those moments because it is partially these close relationships that made the struggle bearable and worthwhile. It takes a special, talented person to be a mother-away-from-home, but if we were asked to make a list of capable can- didates, five names would appear at the top of our list: Mrs. C., ' 1 Mrs. B., Minnie , Judy, and Helen. We wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done and for just being you. We will miss you. i3Saft Lb - HOUSEMOTHERS ADMIN I ST RA TION Hospital Administration S.J. Anonymous Teresa Artley Tes 32 Often your tasks will be many, And more than you think you can do . . . Often the road will be rugged And the hills insurmountable, too . . . But always remember, the hills ahead Are never as steep as they seem, And with Faith in your heart Start upward And climb ' til you reach your dream, For nothing in life that is worthy Is ever too hard to achieve If you have the courage to try it And you have the Faith to believe . . . For Faith is a force that is greater Than Knowledge or power or skill And many defeats turn to triumph If you trust in God ' s wisdom and will . . . For Faith is a mover of mountains, There ' s nothing that God cannot do, So start out today with Faith in your heart And Climb Til Your Dream Comes True! ' Alice Jane Bartlow Alice 33 To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream, not only plan but also believe. Anatole Fiance Constance Barto Connie 34 Lord, make me a channel of thy peace That where there is hatred I may bring love, That where there is wrong I may bring the spirit of forgiveness, That where there is discord I may bring harmony, That where there is error I may bring truth, That where there is doubt I may bring faith, That where there is despair I may bring hope, That where there are shadows I may bring thy light, That where there is sadness I may bring joy. Sandra Berkheiser Sandy 35 . . . Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:13-14 Deborah Blosser DB 36 Resolve to Keep Happy Be happy, talk happiness. Happiness calls out responsive gladness in others. There is enough sadness in the world without yours . . . Never doubt the excellence and permanence of what is yet to be. . . . Join the great company of those who make the barren places of life fruitful with kindness . . . Your success and happiness lie in you . . . The great enduring realities are love and service . . . Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties. Helen Keller Janet Burd Jan 37 As a little girl I dreamed Of the nurse I wished to be I talked about it often As I sat on daddy ' s knee Now that I am all grown up My goal is just in sight For in a short time I will be An angel dressed in white. William Arthur Wood Colleen Crowley Colleen 41 And I ' m only just beginning to believe what you have done How you turned it upside down This world of mine And it seems while I was looking It was right in front of me All the time. Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) Robin Welker-Duttry Robino 42 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort where with we ourselves are comforted of God. II Corinthians 1:3 4 Brenda Furtak Bren 43 I used to think it was only me, Feeling alone not feeling free, To be alive, to be a friend. Now I know we all love stormy weathers, I ' ll be your friend to the very end. Marsha Hofer Marsha 44 n w fc W This life is yours Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature Take the power to control your own life No one else can do it for you Take the power to make your life happy. Susan Polis Schutz Cheryl Holt Cherell 45 I have to live with myself, and so I want to be fit for myself to know. I want to be able as time goes by Always to look myself in the eye. I don ' t want to stand with the setting sun And hate myself for the things I ' ve done. I don ' t want to hide on a closet shelf A lot of secrets about myself, And fool myself as I come and go Into thinking that no one else will know The kind of woman I really am I don ' t want to cover myself with sham I want to go out with my head erect I want to deserve all men ' s respect. Here in this battle for fame and self I want to be able to like myself. I don ' t want to look at myself and know That I ' m bluster and bluff and empty show. For I cannot hide myself from Me Nor from my God who loveth me And Knoweth all I say and do, — So to Him I would e ' er be true. I want to live so hone stly That He will be well pleased with me. Barbie Hoover Hoovey Al ' 46 To dream a nurses dream is a dream that not all can follow, To help curve, restore and comfort is our biggest trial; To go on when our bodies are too weary to smile no matter how hopeless the patients outcome may be, And to pray the Lord shows us guidance when death is ever so near; This is our quest to follow our dream no matter how unrewarding some days may seem And I know the world is better by far becuase a nurse goes forth with love and devotion to reach a nurses dream. Saralynn Jacobs Lynn 47 Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T. Washington Mary Jo Lecker MJ 48 So, we ' ll go no more a roving So late into the night, Though the heart be still as loving And the moon be still as bright. For the sword wears its sheath. And the soul wears out the breast. And the heart must pause to breathe, And love itself have rest. Though the night was made for loving. And the day returns too soon. Yet we ' ll go no more a roving By the light of the moon. George Gordon Byron Vickie Lenhart Vic 49 . . . With every step and every breath it ' s farther from youth and closer to death and the things I ' ve realized now becon me to shut my eyes and I will grow to the age of maybe eighty years in such little time with this venturous mind what am I saying, don ' t I know myself from experience I ' ll never change nor cease to sail the sky till the day I die. I ' ll come to conclusion with fear or illusion, I ' ll live how I feel ' cause no matter how fast or slow, youth will go. Gino Vannelli Mark McDonald Mark 50 In three years time, you ' ve grown, Sympathy, empathy, these seeds were sown. With each passing month, we ' ve heard you sigh, Sometimes a tear or an out and out cry. The winds of time forever blow and sweep away the tears that flow. It doesn ' t mean that you forget. But hope and love you beget. What you have learned and what you have done. Has proved a point to everyone. Each one of us has a special need, For you it was but to succeed. To this noble end, doing your best. You ' ve overcome the odds and passed the test. The time of truth will now begin, We finally can call you, our RN. Tomorrow is a dream that leads me onward, always just a step ahead of me . . . it ' s the joy I ' ve yet to know, the love I ' ve yet to show, for it ' s the person I have yet to be. Karen Ravn Mary Ellen McKissick Hairy i 52 The glory of friendship is not an out stretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spirited inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him. Ralph Waldo Emerson Sharon Miller Sharon 53 Forget about the days when it ' s been cloudy, but don ' t forget your hours in the sun . . Do not fear Laestrygonians . . . pray that the road is long, that you will enter parts seen for the first time with such pleasure, with such joy ... to learn and learn again from those who have knowledge. Always keep Ithaca fixed in your mind . . . your ultimate goal. Ithaca has given you a beautiful journey . . . without her you would have never taken the road. — CZERNY — Nancy Panko Nancy 55 Understanding Not more of light I ask, O God, But eyes to see what is: Not sweeter songs, but ears to hear The present melodies: Not more of strength, but how to use The power that I possess: Not more of love, but skill to turn A frown to a caress: Not more of joy, but how to feel Its kindly presence near To give to others all I have Of courage and of cheer. No other gifts, dear God, I ask. But only sense to see How best these precious gifts to use Thou hast bestowed on me. Who loves life and lives it to the fullest; who has discovered and shared the strengths and talents that are uniquely her own; who puts her best into each task and leaves each situation better than she found it; who seeks and finds that which is beautiful in all people . . . and all things; whose heart is full of love and warm with compassion; who has found joy in living and peace within herself. Barbara J. Burrow Gwendolyn Stamets Gwen 58 A fool will lose tomorrow, reaching back for yesterday. Dionne Warwick Sandra Stanzione Sandy ■59 You were there when tears were flowing freely, telling me it would be alright. You helped to lessen the disappointments by sharing them with me. You listened to my complaints and gave me support. You were there to share the joys and the new experiences. You have given me encouragement, confidence, and many happy memories. Thanks to you, Mom, Dad, Bryce, all my friends here at school and my relatives these past three years have quickly gone by. Kylinn Kylinn Stone Kybee m 60 All living things have an elemental goodness, but in mankind, his true nature is often largely submerged like a log in the river, by the environment he has created about him. But simply because it is submerged does not mean that idealism does not exist and despite times of pessimism I think the day will come when that idealism is allowed its full function and flowering. Albert Schweitzer Donald Swanson Swany 61 One night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with the Lord and across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonged to me, and the other to the Lord. I noticed that in the lowest and most difficult times in my life there was only one set of footprints. This disturbed me and I asked the Lord about it. The Lord replied, My precious, precious child, I love you, and would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you. Unknown Laurie Doty Wagner Laurie 62 The Love Of Parents There is no greater gift in life Than the love our parents give, It ' s a wonderful example Of the way that we should live, It helps us trust in others, To be kind and show concern, For the love our parents give Helps us love others in return. Then again I recollect — that yes it may be so . . . For it seems we roll into many a thorn as along the way we go. Indeed it isn ' t all that bad, there is some joy to share. For just as the roses bloom, we ' ve grown patience, love and care. And now as at last we leave this habitation . . . We rejoice - We ' ve reached our CELEBRATION! 9 SJM .W l km !: u m u Ssi i ' . v fry
