l Y THE WILLIAMSPORT HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING CLASS OF 1978 PRESENTS THE OAK 777 RURAL AVE. WILLIAMSPORT, PA. 17701 DEDICATION As we, the Class of 1978, passed through our freshman year and entered our junior year, we faced the realization of the totally new experience ahead. To our surprise and benefit there was a very special woman who was also facing a new experience. That new experience was the initiation of a career as an instructor. Together, we learned and shared many experiences. She dedicated herself to increasing our nursing knowledge and skills. Through all these experiences she became more than an instructor to our class. With her we attained a personal relationship — she became our friend. In this role she always gave of herself. She listened to our problems and guided us to their solutions. Together we laughed and cried. Today, she is a part of our lives and we are a part of hers. In return for her sincere friendship, it is with gratitude that we dedicate our yearbook to Miss Mary Ann Hubicki. RECOGNITION During our time of struggle as we progressed from the hope to the reality of becoming a registered nurse, we all had an opportunity to study with Mrs. Gustafson. We, the Class of 1978, would like to thank her for the quality of instruction she gave. She expected our best and was always there to guide and constructively criticize us. Looking back over times fraught with tension, we see that in all phases of our nursing education, this woman taught at her best. And so it is with a deep sense of appreciation that we honor her effort with a sincere thank- you and a promise that as we pursue our careers we will strive to practice nursing in a most proficient manner consistent with her investment in our learning. But the water creating the peaceful ebb of the ocean is the memories we have so strongly of one another. Unknown MARY KAY DANNEKER Let me tonight look back across the span, twixt down and dark, and to my conscious say Because of some good act to beast or man, The world is better that I loved today. Ella Wheeler Wilcox JANET DIECK Tears fill my eyes but still I see the beauty of my memories. I dream of things forever gone, Though my mind forgets — My heart holds on. De Grellet 13 KATHY HARSTEAD I love life, I love being young. I ' m just too busy to work at being beautiful. Wish not so much to live long, As to live well. Unknown RENA HERMAN When someone cares it is easier to speak, It is easier to listen, it is easier to play, it is easier to work. When someone cares it is easier to laugh. Susan Polis Schutz 14 DAWN JONES Lord help me remember that nothing is going to happen today that you and I can ' t handle. Unknown VICKl KATHERMAN Real joy comes not from laces or riches or from the praise of men, but doing something worth- while . . . Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1 John 4: 7-11 NANCY MILLER Don ' t worry about anything; Instead, pray about everything; Tell God your needs and don ' t forget to thank Him for his answers. Philippians 4:6 ; 17 CYNTHIA MISSIEN Respect of the Lord is the beginning of knowl edge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7 CHRISTINE MURRAY Ask, and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 T 18 CATHY RAYMOND Time, like a mighty river, flows on unceasingly. It waits for no one and we must seize our precious opportunities, or they are gone forever. Unknown MARIE SEERS Freedom and flight limited by nothing at all. Jonathan 19 DEBBIE SHAFFER Wrinkles should merely indicate where the smiles have been. Mark Twain I SHEILA STABLEY The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27:1 t A 20 LINDA WAGNER Now glory be to God who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of — infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts or hopes. Ephesians 3:20 MARGARET WEHLER They might not need me; but they might, I ' ll let my head be just in sight; A smile as small as mine might be, Precisely their necessity. Emily Dickenson 21 TRUDIE WENNER What we are is God ' s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God. Louis Nizer HELEN WHJTTEMORE Good friends must not always be together. It is the feeling of oneness when distant that proves a lasting friendship. Susan Polis Schutz 22 CLAUDIA WILLIS I have learned that to be with those I like is enough. Walt Whitman STEPHANIE WILLIS Just as the outgoing tide returns to the oceanside So the gift of outgoing friendship comes back to the giver. Kathy Long 23 MARY WORTHINGTON Stay is a charming word in a friend ' s vocabu- lary. Amos Bronson Alcott CAROLYN YORLETS Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Unknown 24 CANDY BOSWELL No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Aesop SALLY FRANZ And a man said, Speak to us of Self-Knowledge. And he answered, saying: Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights. But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart ' s knowledge. You would know in words that which you have always known in thought. You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams. And it is well you should. The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea. And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes. But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure; And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line. For self is a sea boundless and measureless. Say not, I have the found truth, but rather, I have found a truth. Say not, I have found the path of the soul. Say rather, I have met the soul walking upon my path. For the soul walks upon all paths. The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed. The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.
