Here they come Released after years of being kept in hiding , They ' re climbing up the ladder rung by rung . . . emmuGw DORIS MAY PICK While Jim Croce was singing about life and times, Nixon was fighting Water- gate, and Women ' s Lib sought equal rights, WHSN was experiencing the char- isma of Mrs. Doris Pick, whose influence will remain a vital part of our personal and professional lives. Although only on the staff for two years, Mrs. Pick ' s pres- ence has had both a direct and indirect influence on the careers of students and will for many years to come. In the classroom it seemed as though she was restrained. She did her teaching naturally on the units or relaxing after hours. Here she talked with us, demonstrated to us, but most of all, worked with us. No question was too stupid, no opinion too ridiculous. That sort of makes a student relate to a teacher - person to person, and that ' s the way it should be. For us, that ' s the way it was. The Class of 1975 is then proud to dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Doris Pick and to the ideals for which she stands. 7 eemnlti6n JEANNE DUNKLE In our freshman year, we met Mrs. Dunkle. Being one of our clinical instructors , we had many learning experiences with her. Her love and enthusiasm for nursing inspired many of us during the hardships . Thank you for being our advisor. MARY ELLEN ROSENCRANCE Mrs. Rosencrance, as well as being an instructor and class advisor, has proved to be an understanding friend and counselor. .r GAIL MEIKRANTZ We wish to express our gratitude to Miss Gail Meikrantz for her guidance in year- book , as it was greatly needed . Without her aid , the job would not have been as easy and worthwhile as it was. Among the many memories of our first year were the days we walked to Lycoming College in rain, sleet, and snow. We remember all of those Fundies labs, our talent show, and our esca- pades in the residence. The time finally came when we received our caps and began working on the clinical units. It was in our Freshman year when we first experienced what it means to be a nurse . Medical-Surgical Nursing Medical -Surgical nursing oriented us to the complete care of the adult patient and the principles of this care. We went from the clinical units to the operative suite for observation, to the recovery room , and then to the clinical floors again to give postoperative care. K Surgery - Nursing III Operating Room, Recovery Room, and Special Surgical Care Unit are some of the areas in which Junior students take part in Surgical Nursing. In this course the student is exposed to surgi- cal procedures and the pre and post operative care. The instruc- tors in this course help make the student aware of the compre- hensive care of the patient undergoing surgery. Psychiatric Nursing As Mrs. Havens would say, It ' s an OK thing, and we think that about Psychiatric Nursing. Under the supervision of our psych, instructors, we learned that nursing is really where it ' s happening. Our experiences included Day Treat- ment Center, Way Unit, Divine Providence Hospital, and an unforgettable two days at Danville State Hospital. 71 Special Care Needs Rehabilitation nursing is centered around the individual who has suf- fered an impairment in functioning due to disease or injury, which has interfered with his daily living. Our role as students is to help this person make the best possible adjustment to this change in his life to reach optimum health. 71 Maternity Nursing Nursing in general offers numerous opportunities which allow us to witness life ' s miracles. Maternity Nursing offered us the chance to observe the oldest miracle of all - that of birth. Our experiences now behind us, dealt with before, during, and after birth. From them, we have gained a better understanding of life and its intertwining love, to grow as a nurse and a person. Pediatric Nursing The goal in pediatrics is to assist the child in reaching adulthood in the best state of physical, emotional, and social development possible. Students play an active role in helping the health team to reach this goal . They also help the parents understand their child ' s illness and the needs he has during his hospitalization. This is an impor- tant step in the child ' s recovery. 74 Nursing V Nursing V was a very challenging experience for us. In a critical care setting we saw patients ' lives fluctuate between life and death. It provided fast paced action for medical problems requiring STAT medical treatment. Throughout Nursing V , physical assessment was utilized on all our patients. We learned the value of this through our instructors . ! _ vfc, 7 X 1 ■_ 75 Comprehensive Nursing Comprehensive nursing is the time when everyone utilizes all of the knowledge which we have gained in our three years as students. 77 1 4 A 78 c duritki 79 Executive Board Left to Right - J.
