Cultural Awareness Stern Ginger CBarb Zeiglerb looks on in complete agreement as Tommy CMike Barony explains to Mr. Carol CSteve Colej his beliefs in human equality fzzborej. This scene was part of this year's Senior Class play, Time Out for Ginger, Cultural pursuits are studies which develop the mind in literature, art, or music. The chance for students to enrich their learning and their lives cul- turally is an opportunity available and encouraged in high school. The chance to participate in the dramatic arts is presented when, each year in the spring and fall, the juniors and the Seniors produce a play. Stu- dent committees choose the plays, and whether it is a comedy or drama or musical, it is sure to be well received. The art department of XVAHS, in its versa- tility, includes studies in sketching, painting, and sculpture. Through these art mediums, students ex- press their talent and their ability to create. WAHS possesses a proud history and a bright future of mu- sical organizations. At the Christmas and Spring Con- certs and at performances before civic groups and the student body, the choir displays its talent and the results of many hours of diligent practice. The bands performances at football games, pep rallies, and at their Spring Concert provide enjoyment and a source of pride for everyone who appreciates the training and natural ability of each band member. Cultural exchange, the sharing of ideas and concepts, is em- phasized by the actions of AFS, whose efforts help the exchange students adjust to their new environ- ment. Speech classes enrich assemblies with short skits and help to round out the cultural picture of life at Wfilliamsport High School. AW' ffivfvf The high-stepping WAHS Band fleflj performs one of their many half-time shows before the home grandstands. Choir rehear- sals CrigblQ not only cover the practice of music for performance, but also the study of technique and theory.

During the noon break Cbelozvj, the lunch table is everyone's favorite meeting place. By buying carrots from Albert Rizzo or Jim Sullivan on SGA's Carrot Day Criglatb, students supported our football team against William Penn. 'Fa There, verywhere. In good weather, the front steps of WAHS be- come a popular place for students to stop and exchange news. Z ,I . ll. .m mt1 'lil Outside the classroom, social life flourishes in the halls and cafeteria, or anywhere else that students enjoy getting together. Homecoming, the junior- Senior Prom, in addition to the weekly dances at the Pit are school-affiliated special events. In the school itself, many and varied clubs offer every stu- dent a chance to pursue his own particular interests, and challenging sports activities aid him in develop- ing his physical qualities. If a student is interested in music, the WAHS band and choir provide excellent opportunities for the development and refinement of his talent. LA MEMOIRE, Chewy and White, and Bill- town Banner also play an important role in the extra- curricular activities of many students whether they are involved in writing or selling their publication. Lunchtime furnishes a chance for each student to meet with his friends either in the cafeteria, Stan's, or DiMarco's for food and relaxation while catching up on the latest news. But favorite of all spots for student socializing after a hard day of learning are the halls in the school and the front steps. Social activities, coupled with academic pursuits provide the student with relaxation and character development.

From ln olvement Effective self-expression is one of the major goals all English pupils hope to attain. Denny Doebler Calzore, Zeftj strives for this achievement as he delivers a speech in his English IV class. Christer Dogertz, foreign exchange student from Sweden and Mr. Koons Caboreb tete-a-tete at a get-acquainted tea given by AFS. Like all art students at WAHS, Chris Fox Cbelowb is given the opportunity to develop her own technique. 1 M , .
